2025 Peru Athletic Hall of Fame inductees named

PERU | Peru Central School has announced the 2025 class of inductees into its Athletic Hall of Fame, honoring five former student-athletes whose accomplishments span generations and multiple sports. The newest honorees are Charles Andrews (Class of 1956), Len Gadway (Class of 1975), Nick Weaver (Class of 2001), Brandon Keleher (Class of 2003) and Mary Catherine Mazzella (Class of 2013). Charles Andrews, Class of 1956 A four-sport standout, Andrews competed in baseball, soccer, basketball and track and field. He excelled on the diamond, once pitching a perfect game and batting .500 for a season. Beyond his playing days, Andrews left a lasting impact as a teacher, coach and administrator. He is being inducted posthumously. Len Gadway, Class of 1975 Gadway played football and wrestled at Peru, becoming a two-time Section VII champion with a career record of 71-16-1. He was the first Section VII athlete to reach a New York state final, finishing runner-up in wrestling. Gadway later coached Beekmantown wrestling for 43 years, becoming the first Section VII coach to win 500 dual meets. In 2024, he was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in Stillwater, Okla. Nick Weaver, Class of 2001 Weaver's story is one of resilience, capped by a historic 2001 state wrestling championship. After early struggles, he climbed the ranks to post a 29-3 senior season record, winning the Section VII crown and the NYSPHSAA heavyweight title. Weaver also represented New York at the National Scholastic Duals and excelled in football and track and field. Brandon Keleher, Class of 2003 A three-sport athlete, Keleher starred in football, basketball and track and field. On the gridiron, he rushed for 3,014 yards and 54 touchdowns, helping lead Peru to the 2001 New York state Class B championship. His late-game interceptions in the state semifinal and final, as well as a 55-yard touchdown pass in the title game, remain legendary. He also contributed to sectional championships in basketball and track. Keleher later played football at St. Anselm College and now serves as an assistant football coach at Peru. Mary Catherine Mazzella, Class of 2013 Mazzella excelled in soccer, basketball and track at Peru. She earned multiple CVAC all-star honors, captained her soccer and basketball teams, and won a sectional track championship in the 4×400 relay. At SUNY Oswego, she was a four-year basketball player and two-year track athlete, ranking among the school's all-time leaders in assists and steals. She has since built a coaching career, including assistant coaching stints at SUNY Brockport and Ithaca College. Ceremony details The induction ceremony and dinner will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025, at Plattsburgh Moose Lodge 2390 (90 Sharron Avenue, Plattsburgh). Social hour begins at 5 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person.
