Saranac's Caleb Champagne nominated for Heart of a Giant Award

SARANAC | Caleb Champagne, a Saranac Central School District senior and member of the Saranac Varsity Football Team, has been nominated by the New York Giants to receive the "Heart of a Giant Award". For the 12th consecutive year, USA Football, in collaboration with the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and the New York Giants, has opened the Heart of a Giant Award. This prestigious program has evolved over the years to honor not only high school tackle football players but also flag football athletes, student managers, and student mascots across the Tri-State region. The Tri-State-area high school football players, mascots, team managers, etc., have all been nominated for the award by their coaches for their commitment, teamwork, will, character, and dedication. In his nomination, Champagne, Saranac varsity's #75 and an All-CVAC All-Star lineman, is described as an influential and positive member of the Saranac community through academics, athletics and his connection with youth sports. Academically, he is a member of the National Honor Society, president of Saranac's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and awarded the high honor roll. In athletics, he is a three-year varsity football player as well as a member of both the varsity basketball and baseball teams. He was also recently awarded a scholar-athlete award and prides himself on taking a leadership role on and off the field, showing fellow students and athletes the power of courage and resilience. Saranac Varsity Head Coach Dylan Everleth said, "Outside of his role as a student-athlete, Caleb strongly impacts our youth sports community as a youth official for both the AFL football league and local youth basketball league. His contributions to the Saranac community make him truly deserving of this nomination, and now it is up to us to get him to the top." Inspiring greatness on and off the field, Champagne is now in the running for the Heart of a Giant Award honors. Award finalists receive not only national recognition, but also have the opportunity to help their schools win $1,000 for their football programs, with a grand prize of $9,000. Supporters can vote once per day per device. Champagne's voting round runs through Sept. 28. All votes can be cast at usafootball.com/hoagvote.
