Dallas A. Rich III

LOUISVILLE, KY. | Dallas Arthur Rich III passed away on July 28, 2025, in Louisville, Ky. Known affectionately as Art to family and friends, he was born on Halloween 1944 to Julia Carrano Rich and Dallas Arthur Rich Jr. of Port Henry, N.Y. In 1965, Art married his beloved wife, Yvonne A. LaFountain, at Saint Patrick's Church in Port Henry. Early in their marriage, they lived in New Hampshire and southeastern Vermont before settling in Middlesex, Vt., near Montpelier. There, Art embraced the Catholic faith, and the family became devoted parishioners of St. Augustine Catholic Church. In 1988, Art and Yvonne returned to Port Henry to care for his father. They made their home on what's now known as Ledgetop Lane — the house where Art himself had grown up—until 2003, later moving up the road to Broad Street, where they lived until 2015. During these years, Art was an active member of Saint Patrick's Parish, serving as a Lector and a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was also deeply engaged in his community, serving as president of the Chamber of Commerce and later as Mayor of the Village of Port Henry. Though active in the public sphere, Art was a private person by nature. With family and friends, however, he revealed a different side — warm, playful, and full of humor. He loved to make others laugh, often with a quick joke or a bit of silliness, and those who knew him best cherished his lighthearted spirit. Art also had a beautiful tenor voice, which could often be heard filling the church during hymns and prayers. After his retirement in 2015, Art and Yvonne moved to Louisville, Ky., where they enjoyed living next door to their son, daughter-in-law, and youngest grandchildren. In Louisville, Art cherished both his time with family and the friendships he built in his neighborhood. Art is survived by his wife of 60 years, Yvonne; and their four children: Dallas Rich IV (Staley) of Moriah, N.Y.; Cassandra Aja (Joe) of Barre, Vt.; Brenda McKean of Bristol, Vt.; and Michael (Jessie) of Louisville, Ky. He also leaves behind his siblings, Richard "Dick" (Vesta) Rich of Tulsa, Okla.; Peter Rich of White River Junction, Vt.; and Peg Rich of Rochester, N.Y. Art was also a proud grandfather of nine and great-grandfather of three. Art worked his entire life in the food industry, building a long career as a sales representative for several food distribution companies. He was known for his professionalism, strong work ethic, and easy rapport with customers and colleagues alike. He retired after nearly 20 years with Kraft Foods. Beyond work, he loved local theatre, the gospel music of the Gaithers, and the rock-and-roll and country music of the 1950s and '60s. In later years, he delighted in the companionship of his dogs, Boo and Penny. A Funeral Mass was held on Aug. 13, 2025, at Saint Raphael's Church in Louisville. A memorial service will also be held in Port Henry, N.Y., in the autumn at a time to be determined by his family.
