Essex Co. election slate 2025

ELIZABETHTOWN | Essex County elections will see no contest in county-level positions. The district attorney and Essex County coroner candidates are running unopposed. Sixteen of the 18 supervisor seats are on the ballot though only four are contested races. Some local elected posts drew no candidates, particularly for assessor in the towns of Essex, Moriah and two assessor seats in Wilmington. The Essex County Board of Elections noted that write-in candidates could fill those seats in each case, unless the person named declines after the election. In Wilmington, Republican Party candidate for supervisor Favor J. Smith has withdrawn his run for reelection, citing recent losses in his family. Smith announced his departure at the Board of Supervisors meeting in early August. His name was already submitted and endorsed by the Essex County Republican Committee and will remain printed on the ballot even though he withdrew. Retired, fourth-generation local businessman from Wilmington Sam Haselton has since announced a write-in campaign, which requires voters to add his name on the "Write-In" line. Timothy John Follos is on the ballot, running for Wilmington supervisor as an independent. There is one state proposition on the back of the ballot, a constitutional amendment to allow expansion of ski trails on state Adirondack Park lands managed by the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) at Mt. Van Hoevenberg. One town proposition is going to voters in Crown Point. Election Day is Nov. 4 with Early Voting scheduled from Oct. 25 through Nov. 2. There are two Early Voting poll sites in Essex County, one at the Lake Placid Beach House, 49 Parkside Dr. in Lake Placid, and the other in the Essex County Public Safety Building, 702 Stowersville Rd. in Lewis. STATE PROPOSITION The statewide proposition is on the back of the ballot. It seeks permission from New York voters to amend the New York State Constitution to allow expansion of skiing and trail facilities at the Olympic Sports Complex at Mt. Van Hoevenberg, North Elba, Essex County. The site is 1,039 acres and the amendment requires that New York State add 2,500 acres of new forest land to the Adirondack Park in exchange for trail use at the Olympic Sports Complex. A "yes" vote authorizes new ski trails and related use on state land at Mount Van Hoevenberg. A "No" vote does not authorize this use. COUNTY ELECTIONS Essex County District Attorney Michael P. Langey is running for election on the Republican (R) and Conservative (C) party lines. Two Republican candidates for County Coroner are looking to fill the two positions: Jay E. Heald and Kellie M. Valentine. TOWN RACES Chesterfield Three candidates are running for two open seats on the Town Council in Chesterfield: Harrison Blaise (R), John S. Casey (R) and William Lyons (I). Crown Point The race for town supervisor has two candidates on the ballot, Anita D. Johnson (D) and Clayton D. Menser Sr. (R,I). Two candidates are running for two open seats on the Crown Point Town Council, Sherlene Simpson-Barrows (R) and Walter A. Worth (R). Candidates running for Superintendent of Highways are Bruce W. Burns Jr. (R) and David P. Cheney Sr. (I). Crown Point Proposition: Local Law No. 1 would change the highway superintendent's term from two years to four years, commencing with the term that begins January 1, 2028. Shall the proposed Local Law be approved, yes or no? Elizabethtown Supervisor Cathleen Reusser-Bradley is seeking reelection, unopposed, on both the Democratic and Republican party lines. Peter A. Deming (R,I) is running unopposed for town justice. Two candidates are running for town clerk/tax collector in Elizabethtown, Marietta Brady (I) and Patti L. Doyle (R,I). Two candidates seek reelection to their seats on the Town Council, Adam N. Bailey (D,I) and William Wright Jr. (R). One candidate is running for the Department of Public Works superintendent position, Jack D. Pulsifer (R). Essex Ken Hughes is running as an Independent for reelection as town supervisor. Alicia Kelly (R,I) is running unopposed for the position of town clerk/tax collector. Two candidates seek election for two open seats on the Town Council, Erin C. Hall (D) and Scott Hurlburt (D). Kyle Wrisley (R) is running unopposed for superintendent of highways. The assessor's position in Essex is vacant on the ballot. Jay Two candidates are vying for the supervisor's seat in Jay, Daniel Mark Deyoe (R,I) and Matthew Stanley (D,I). One candidate is running for town clerk, Carol Greenley Hackel (R). Four candidates are running for two open seats on the Town Council, Archie R. Depo (I), Stephen L. Forbes (R,I), Robin Licari (D,I) and Knut Sauer (D,I). Chris Sorrell (D) is running unopposed for the superintendent of highways post. Lori Duchame (R) is running unopposed for tax collector. Keene The race for supervisor has two candidates in Keene, Roger Y. Allen (R,I) and Joe Pete Wilson (D). Two are running for reelection to their Town Council seats, Robert M. Biesemeyer (D,I) and Teresa Cheetham-Palen (D). Ryan Hall (R,I) is running unopposed for superintendent of highways. No candidates petitioned for the open town clerk/tax collector seat in Keene. Lewis Timothy J. Pierce (R,I) is running unopposed for supervisor in Lewis. Brianne Drummond (R) is running unopposed for town clerk. John Blades (R) and Terry Lee Pulsifer Jr. (R) are running for the two open seats on the Town Council. James Monty (R) is running unopposed for town justice. Kevin M. Denton (R) is running unopposed for superintendent of highways. Kathleen Robertson (R) is running unopposed for tax collector. Minerva Stephen R. McNally (D,I) is running unopposed for supervisor in Minerva. Keith E. Dubay (R) and Douglas S. McCall (R) are running for two open seats on the Town Council. Theresa Fish (D) is running unopposed for town clerk/tax collector. Jonathan L. Fish (R,I) is running unopposed for superintendent of highways. Patrick C. Strohmeyer (D) is running unopposed for town justice. Moriah Matthew J. Brassard (R) is running unopposed for town supervisor. James Curran (R) and Nathan Gilbo (R) are running for two open seats on the Town Council. No candidate petitioned for the assessor's seat in Moriah; the ballot line is vacant. Newcomb Mary D. Lamphear (R,I) is running unopposed for supervisor in Newcomb. Bethebelle Poulin (R) is running unopposed for town clerk. Three candidates are running for two open seats on the Town Council, Lana A. Fennessy (D, I), Jen Fifield (D, I) and Mark T. Yandon (R). Clifford Demars (R) is running unopposed for superintendent of highways. There are no candidates on the ballot for tax collector in Newcomb, due to a change in the position. The Town Council previously voted to abolish the position and combine it with the town clerk's job. The current tax collector will fill out her position through the end of 2025, according to the Essex County Board of Elections. At that point, the town clerk/tax collector will be combined. North Elba Richard Preston (D,R,I) is running unopposed for town supervisor. Jason C. Leon (D,I) and Jack Moulton (D,R,I) are running, uncontested, for two open Town Council seats. No candidate petitioned to run for town justice in North Elba and the ballot is vacant. North Hudson Two candidates are running for the two open seats on the Town Council, Brian DeZalia (R, I) and Larry Koller (R). There are two candidates running for one position as town justice in North Hudson, Deborah Duntley (I) and Sally Wachowski (R, I). Bruce E. Caza (R) is running for assessor in North Hudson. Schroon Meg Wood (I) is running uncontested for supervisor in Schroon. Three candidates seek election for two open seats on the Town Council, Rose Behrens-Merrill (R,I), Leanna Welch (R,I) and David Williams (I). Two candidates are vying for one position as Town of Schroon town justice, Mark S. Granger, Esq. (D,I) and Tracy Hanchett (R,I). Neil Chippendale (I) is running unopposed for the assessor's post. St. Armand Davina Thurston (I) is running unopposed for supervisor of St. Armand. Raine DeLancett (D) is running unopposed for town clerk. John Paul O'Neil (R) and Raymond Tempestilli (C) are running unopposed for two open seats on the town council. Douglas E. Snickles Jr (R,I) is running unopposed for superintendent of highways. Jennifer L. Fuller (R) is running unopposed for tax collector. Ticonderoga James F. O'Bryan (R) is running unopposed for supervisor. Four candidates are vying for two seats on the Town Council, Laura Best (D, I), Joyce Cooper (R,I), Tom Cunningham (D,I), and David Woods (R) With two positions open for town justice in Ticonderoga, three candidates are on the ballot, Thomas C. Dedrick (R,I), Philippe R. LaPerle (R,I) and Brenda M. Wells (R,I). Westport Michael K. Tyler (R,I) is running unopposed for reelection as town supervisor. Two candidates are running for two open seats on the Town Council, Steven E. Viens (D) and Eric Westover (R,I). Willsboro Two candidates are on the ballot in a race for town supervisor, Darren P. Dickerson (R,I) and Shaun G. Gillilland (I). With two open seats on the Town Council, three candidates on the ballot, Scott A. Christian (R,I), Victor J. Putman (D,I) and Lorilee M. Sheehan (R,I). Two candidates are running for the town clerk/tax collector seat in Willsboro, Maegan Santillo (I) and Susan Thompson (R,I). Tricia J. Sheehan (R,I) is running unopposed for town justice. Travis J. Crowningshield (R,I) is running unopposed for superintendent of highways. Wilmington Though current Supervisor Favor J. Smith (R, I) is named on the ballot, he has withdrawn from the race. Timothy John Follos (I) is on the ballot facing a write-in campaign announcement from Sam Haselton. There are two open seats on the town council and four candidates on the ballot, Hanna Cromie (D), Mindy Goddeau (I), Karl Von Entress (R) and Randy Winch (I). Dawn Stevens (R,I) is running unopposed for town clerk/tax collector. Three candidates are vying for election as Town of Willsboro superintendent of highways, Louis P. Andragna (R,I), Cameron Grady (I) and Darren Lawrence (I). No candidate filed to run for the open four-year term as assessor. No candidate filed petitions to run for a three-year unexpired term as assessor. ....................... EARLY VOTING Early voting begins Oct. 25 and continues daily through Nov. 2. Polls for early voting are at the Lake Placid Beach House in Lake Placid and at the Public Safety Building in Lewis.
