Julie Milner now leads Jbg.'s Adk. Outreach Center

JOHNSBURG | The Adirondack Community Outreach Center has a new CEO, as Julie Milner of North Creek took over the position of Executive Director of the Johnsburg-based organization about five weeks ago. She replaced Andie Waldron, who decided to retire. Milner has solid experience in non-profit organization development and management, including budgeting, grant writing, overseeing operations, fundraising, and organizational planning. Her prior positions include Coordinator of Workforce Development, Training, and Education for Warren County government. In that role, she sought employment opportunities for people who were unemployed, laid off, or seeking a new job. Beforehand, she was project manager for SUNY Empire University at Saratoga Springs for about six years. Previously, she worked as a consultant working with public charter schools in New York State, Missouri, and Illinois to increase their capacity, facilities and enrollment. From 2010 to 2011, she served as Director of Operations and Finance for the New York French-American Charter School in New York City. Earlier, she was Director of Development for the Unicorn Theater in Kansas City, Missouri, raising several hundred thousand dollars for the performing arts organization. MILNER'S VOLUNTEER WORK Since 2024, she has served as Vice President of Administration for North Creek's Our Town Theater Group, raising money and helping to boost the group's development. In addition, she serves as Finance Chair for the Minerva Historical Society, a position she has held since 2023. In this position, she has facilitated funding by the New York State Council on the Arts. Milner has been engaged in volunteer work in other communities in which she has resided. She has served as a newsletter editor for a chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club, a board member of a neighborhood association, and a finance chair for a foreign language charter school. When living in Missouri in the mid-2000s, she served as a board member and Finance Committee Chairman of the Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey. In this role, she was in charge of raising money for the prominent national dance company. Milner has earned a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, Politics and Advocacy from New York University after obtaining undergraduate degrees from Washington University and the University of Minnesota. In her application for the position to lead the Adirondack Community Outreach Center, Milner said she was looking forward to addressing community needs, intending to create a development plan for the Center's various programs and events, and ramping up its fundraising efforts using various strategies. The Adirondack Community Outreach Center operates a food pantry and a clothing center, and provides meals and school supplies for students, as well as advocating for families in need and referring them to other agencies for assistance. Contacted recently, Outreach Center Board President Sue Goodspeed praised Milner for her abilities and her accomplishments to date. "Julie has great credentials, and so far, she's doing a fantastic job," Goodspeed said.
