Election 2025: Ballots being set in Clinton Co.

PLATTSBURGH | Election Day is Nov. 4 this year with early voting open from Oct. 25 through Nov. 2 at the John H. Zurlo Clinton County Government Center. Early voting polls are in the First Floor Meeting Room. The government center is located at 137 Margaret Street in the City of Plattsburgh. An election for the 115th Assembly District seat opened with Billy Jones' departure, will be included on the 2025 general election ballot Nov. 4. County political committees are in the process of choosing candidates to run. Once all are finalized, The Sun will follow with news coverage. STATE PROPOSITION A statewide proposition on the back of the ballot seeks to amend the New York State Constitution to allow skiing and trail facilities at the Olympic Sports Complex at Mt. Van Hoevenberg, North Elba, Essex County. The "Amendment to Allow Olympic Sports Complex in Essex County on State Forest Preserve Land" would allow skiing and related trail facilities on state forest preserve land. The site is 1,039 acres, and the amendment requires New York State to add 2,500 acres of new forest land in Adirondack Park. A "Yes" vote authorizes new ski trails and related facilities in the Adirondack Park forest preserve. A "No" vote does not authorize this use. COUNTY and CITY CANDIDATES Three county positions are on the 2025 ballot along with legislator seats in even-numbered Areas 2, 4, 6, 8, 10. Two candidates are running for Clinton County Clerk: Brandi Lloyd on Democratic (D) and Working Families (WF) party lines, and Jerika Manning on Republican (R) and Conservative (C) party lines. County District Attorney Andrew Wiley (D) is running for reelection unopposed. Two candidates are vying for County Treasurer: Chad Deans (R,C) and Randy Lozier (D). In the Area 2 legislator's race, Francis Peryea (R, C) is seeking reelection, facing challenger Deryl Gregory (D, WF). In Area 4, Democrat David Bezio is facing a challenge from Republican Ed Kirby. In Area 6, current Legislator Patty Waldron reached term limit. Candidates Jessie Furnia (D) and Jennifer Facteau Rabideau (R, C) are vying for the seat. In Area 8, Ron Deragon (D, WF) is running unopposed. In Area 10, current Legislator Bob Hall reached term limit. Candidates David Kerr (D, WF) and Brandon Wallburg (R) are running for the position. Election 2025 has four seats to fill on the City of Plattsburgh Common Council. In Ward 1, Julie Baughn (D) is running for reelection, uncontested. In Ward 2, Jim Evans (D) is unopposed in a bid for the seat he's held by appointment. In Ward 3, a two-way race looks to fill Elizabeth Gibbs' one-year unexpired term, and Jackie Strack (D) is seeking election to the seat she's held by appointment against Dennis Chaney (R). And in Ward 4, Jennifer Tallon (D, WF) is running for reelection against Clay Morris (R). The city has until Sept. 5 to put forth any propositions for inclusion on the 2025 ballot. CLINTON CO. TOWN ELECTIONS There are eight supervisor races on town ballots in 2025. The only contested supervisor's race is in Beekmantown, where incumbent Sam Dyer (D) faces challenger Brent Wyand (R). The Town of Champlain is the only town with a proposition on the ballot, asking voters if the town highway superintendent should be an appointed rather than an elected post. ALTONA In Altona, there are two open seats on the Town Council, with four candidates on the ballot: Jeanne Bushey (D); Kevin Gero (R); Penny Hendry (D); and Melissa Peryea (R). Two are running for Town Clerk/Tax collector: Heather Seguin (D) and Terry Speer (R). AUSABLE There is a three-way race for two open seats on the Town Council in Ausable. Candidates are Steve Suaharski (D), Steven Kelley (R), and Taunya Hanson (R). BEEKMANTOWN Two candidates are running for Town Supervisor: Sam Dyer (D, I) and Brent Wyand (R). Six candidates are running for three Town Council seats: Daryl Menard (R), Susan Patnode (D), Eric Deyo-Pugh (R), Mark Sand (R), Clarkson Thorne (D) and Cheryl Turner (D). Warren Russell (D, R) is running unopposed for Beekmantown Superintendent of Highways. In the race for Town Clerk/ Tax Collector, candidates are Jim Mousseau (D) and Tammy Menard (R). BLACK BROOK Four candidates are running for two open seats on the Black Brook Town Council: Robert Haywood (D), Bill Rhino (R), James Seguin (R) and Melissa Walton (D). CHAMPLAIN Tom Trombley (R) running unopposed for reelection as Town Supervisor. Three candidates are vying for two open seats on the Town Council: Jarrod Cone (D), Rick Hunter (R), and Natasha Nevius (R). Allen Racine (D, R) is running unopposed for Superintendent of Highways. Julie Castine (R) is unopposed in her bid for Town Clerk. A proposition on the ballot will ask voters if they want the highway superintendent to be appointed rather than elected. CHAZY Daniel Vesco (R) is running unopposed for the town supervisor's post. Two candidates are seeking two open seats on the Chazy Town Council: Cathy Devins (R) and Willie Giroux (R). Taylor Boudreau (R) is on the ballot, running unopposed for Town Clerk/Tax Collector And Kevin Girard (D) is running unopposed for Chazy Superintendent of Highways. CLINTON Town Supervisor Daniel LaClair (D) is running unopposed for reelection. Two are running for two open seats on the Town Council: Francis Helm Jr. (D) and Patrick LeClair (D, R). Tammy Bell-Martin (D) is running unopposed for Town Clerk. Cindy Helm (D) is running unopposed for Tax Collector. And Brandon Matthews (D, R) is running unopposed for Superintendent of Highways. DANNEMORA Joey Varin (D, R) is on the ballot, unopposed, in a bid for Town Supervisor. Two candidates are running for Superintendent of Highways in Dannemora: Frank LaMountain (R) and Mark Siskavich (D). Three candidates are running for two open seats on the Town Council: Jason Carter (R), LaDonna Irby (D) and Michael Tolosky (R). Rebecca Langlois (D, R) is running unopposed for the Town Clerk/Tax Collector position. ELLENBURG Jason Dezan (R) is seeking the Town Supervisor's position, unopposed. Bradley Wright (R) is running unopposed for Superintendent of Highways. Bethany Drown-Fortin (R) is running unopposed for Town Clerk. Two candidates are running for Tax Collector in Ellenberg: Christine Gregory (D) and Amanda Kerr (R). Six candidates are vying for three open seats on the Town Council: Shannon Barton (R), Dennis Mccreless (R), Jim McNeil (D), Tory Russell (D), Neil Trombley (R) and Robert Weeks (D). MOOERS Four candidates are running for two seats on the Town Council in Mooers: Roger Bedard (R), Christine DeLong (D), Karl DeLong (D), and Jimmy Rabideau (R). Two candidates are running for Superintendent of Highways: Joseph Boulerice (D, I) and Kris Gilmore (R, I). Dave Kokes (R) is running unopposed for Town Justice. Kelly McDonald (D, R) is running unopposed for Town Clerk/Tax Collector. PERU Craig Randall (R) is on the ballot unopposed in a bid for Town Supervisor. Three candidates are vying for two open seats on the Peru Town Council: Dwane Bast (R), Mel Irwin (R) and Nick Weaver (D). Running for Town Justice, Sarah Mitchell (D,I) is unopposed. Two candidates are running for the Town Clerk/Tax Collector post: Christine Crawford (R) and Dianne Miller (D). Two candidates are running for Superintendent of Highways: Chip Blair (D) and Michael Farrell (R). TOWN OF PLATTSBURGH Four candidates are running for two Town Council seats in the Town of Plattsburgh: Kevin Agnew (R), Daniel Bosley (D), David Duquette (R) and Dana Isabella (D, WF). Two candidates are running for Town Justice: Scott Hite, (R) and Kristofer Michaud (D, WF). Jackie Bellew (D, WF) is running unopposed for Tax Collector. SARANAC Tim Napper (R, C) is running unopposed for reelection as Town Supervisor. Steve McKenzie (R) is running unopposed for Superintendent of Highways. P.J. Lawton (R) is running unopposed for Town Justice. Three candidates are running for two open seats on the Saranac Town Council: Nathan Cheney (D), Josh Eggleston (R) and James "Beaver" Bassett (R). Debbie Pellerin (D) is running unopposed for Town Clerk. Mark White (D, R) is running unopposed for Tax Collector. SCHUYLER FALLS On the ballot for Town Supervisor Mindy Smith (R) is running unopposed. Darren Seymour (D, R) is running unopposed for Superintendent of Highways. Four candidates are running for two open seats on the Schuyler Falls Town Council: Timmy Aubin (R), Sheila Baker (C), Mike Perrotte (R) and Jason Rock (D). ...............................
