Excitement builds for Lake City Arts Fest Aug. 23

PLATTSBURGH | The City of Plattsburgh and Strand Center for the Arts are welcoming the community back to the Lake City Arts Fest on Saturday, Aug. 23. Now in its fourth year, the free celebration of arts and culture will take over Margaret Street, Brinkerhoff Street, Durkee Street, and the Strand Center for the Arts campus, offering music, food, interactive art, artist vendors, and family fun for all ages from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. LIVE MUSIC PERFORMANCES Enjoy a vibrant lineup of local and regional acts, including: -Bella's Bartok, festival headliner, will be performing at 2 p.m. Known for their raucous, theatrical performances and powerful message of hope in uncertain times, Bella's Bartok blends punk, pop, and sounds inspired by bands like Queen and System of a Down into one unforgettable show. -Martin Shamoonpour & Kenny Vymislicky, presented by Hill and Hollow Music, will be performing at 1 p.m. Martin Shamoonpour is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, actor, and visual artist from Tehran. His work blends traditional Iranian sounds with experimental electronic music, and he's toured internationally, sharing his unique fusion of sound and visual storytelling. Now based in the U.S., Martin continues to explore culture and identity through music, performance, and art. Kenny Vymislicky is a local musical force blending jazz, folk, and progressive rock. Whether he's on bass, banjo, or mandolin, his creativity and rhythm shine through every note. -Marcus Carson, presented by Plattsburgh Blues & Jazz, will be performing at noon. This young Adirondack musician blends acoustic blues, jazz, and folk into a vibe you won't want to miss. ARTIST DEMONSTRATIONS Festival-goers of all ages can roll up their sleeves and get creative. This year's lineup of interactive art experiences includes: -Darkroom Magic, An Immersive Photo Experience: Montréal-based artist group Première Impression is bringing some darkroom magic to Lake City Arts Fest this year! Be sure to stop by the Strand Center for the Arts' front lawn to be part of the magic with activities including direct-positive portraits and a giant cyanotype mural. -Ceramics Pit Fire with Mollie Ward: Check out this alternative firing process with ceramic pieces made in the Strand's Clay Studio. -Elsa Koop-Angelicola: Oil Painting Volcanic Landscape ARTIST ROW VENDORS More than 16 vendors, including Hippie Chic, Cailene Allen, Lucas Haight, Designs by Renee and more will be showcasing their work along Brinkerhoff Street and the Strand's Lawn. Expect to find everything from fine art and handmade jewelry to ceramics, woodcraft, and collage art. KIDS' ZONE Located on Brinkerhoff Street near the Library, the Kids' Zone will be packed with fun and creative activities, including weaving, foil art, noodle sculptures, chalk art and more. And yes — Mr. Ding-A-Ling will be back with sweet treats. -Strand Center for the Arts: Join Ms. Sara from the Education Team for a variety of kid-friendly projects, including foil art, weaving, noodle sculptures, and more. -EphemerADK: Join Ed from EphemerADK to create sun sketches. -Also, the Plattsburgh Public Library and Plattsburgh YMCA will be providing interactive activities for families, too. LOCAL FOOD AND DRINK Grab lunch from local food trucks on Durkee Street, including Love Peace and Grilled Cheese, Adirondack Food Therapy, Cousins Maine Lobster, Chip Cookies on Wheels, and High Peaks Brew. Enjoy a drink at the Rustic Pines beer garden in Betty Little Arts Park, or cool off with mocktails from Whistle Stop Fusion BBQ on the Strand's lawn. Lake City Arts Fest would not be possible without the support of local businesses, artists, and community partners.
