Top U.S. women's hockey talent gathers in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID | The future of women's hockey is on full display this week in the Adirondacks as the Lake Placid Olympic Center hosts the 2025 USA Hockey Women's National Festival and Girls Under-18 Select Player Development Camp. Running from Aug. 3-9, the weeklong event showcases elite talent across all levels of the USA Hockey women's pipeline — from Olympic veterans to rising high school stars. It also serves as a key evaluation period ahead of next year's international calendar, including the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina. At the conclusion of the Festival, USA Hockey will announce 25-player rosters for both the U.S. Under-18 Women's Select Team and the U.S. Collegiate Women's Select Team. Those teams will go head-to-head with Team Canada in a three-game rivalry series Aug. 13, 14, and 16, also in Lake Placid. The Women's National Festival features 75 of the country's top players, including standouts from NCAA programs and professional leagues. Household names such as Hilary Knight, Kendall Coyne Schofield, Megan Keller, and Alex Carpenter are joined by emerging stars like Haley Winn, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 PWHL Draft and a recent graduate of Clarkson University, and Casey O'Brien, the draft's No. 3 selection. Team USA enters the Festival fresh off its 11th IIHF Women's World Championship title, defeating rival Canada 4–3 in overtime in the final. Canada, however, has won five of the last six Olympic gold medals in women's hockey. Running concurrently with the Festival is the Girls National Under-18 Select Player Development Camp, bringing together 46 of the top high school-aged players from across the country. The camp is an important step in identifying the next generation of national team talent. Fans will have a chance to see the top U.S. players compete against Team Canada during the three-day series following the conclusion of the Festival. The under-18 and collegiate squads will each play three games at the Olympic Center's 1932 Jack Shea Arena and 1980 Herb Brooks Arena.
