Joseph G. Cyphers Sr.

OCALA, FLA. | Joseph G. Cyphers Sr. Born 20 Jan. 1952 in Meriden, Conn., and a resident of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Mineville, N.Y., was called to the Lord from Heaven on 20 July 2025 at the age of 73 after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Linda, and her three children, Jennifer, Joe and Charles. He leaves behind to carry on his legacy his son Joe Jr. (Katie), daughters Mandy and Angela, sisters Tammy (John) and Allison (Harvey), grandchildren Joey III, Alexa, Taylor, Skye, Kasey and Devon. He is predeceased by his first wife of 29 years, Vicki; parents, Carl and Delores; his brothers Carl Jr., David, nephew Carl III; and granddaughter Kelsey. He leaves behind many relatives and close friends, too many to list, that have shared in his dark sense of humor over the years and many good times that include camping, hunting, fishing, golfing and games of softball. He was often seen working alongside longtime friend Billy rehabbing his former residence in Mineville. You would often see Joe riding his cherished Harley Davidson Trike, his favorite pastime. Joe served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, earning the National Defense Service Medal. A service-connected disability that would eventually end his life did not stop him becoming a tool and diemaker by trade and holding many different types of employment throughout his life, to include working for Northlands Job Corps in Vergennes, Vt., or starting his own business, Joe's Computer Hut, in Port Henry, N.Y. He was the scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts Mineville/Witherbee Troop 76 and a former member of the Mineville/Witherbee Volunteer Fire Department. For those who knew him, they knew where they stood with him. He was blunt, crass and full of jokes all at the same time. There was no mistaking your place in his life. Rough on the outside and full of empathy for anyone in need that called on him for help. A lifetime Yankees fan, he was often seen or heard yelling and screaming at the TV over a great play or "Overpaid bums!" He spent many hours playing the latest Diablo PC game with Joe Jr. and online gaming friends, another passion started years ago with his first wife, Vicki, side-by-side, playing the first version of this game together on their PCs. In his final days he often repeated, "I'm ok, I'm good, Don't worry about me, I'll be fine." Although his great run has ended, it has really just begun. Dad/Grandfather, Husband, Brother, Relatives, Friends, etc.: We all get it now, YOU'RE OK AND GOOD. R.I.P. until we meet again to create new laughs and memories again!
