G.F. Hospital commends Scott Remington for spinal cord fundraising

GLENS FALLS | Scott Remington of Brant Lake, who with his family and friends has raised nearly $1 million for spinal cord injury research through his annual fundraisers, was recently commended by Glens Falls Hospital. In observance of Disability Pride Month, the hospital's Rehabilitation and Wellness Center posted a tribute to Remington on social media, describing him as "hardworking, determined, and inspiring." Remington visits the rehabilitation center weekly for physical therapy and fitness enhancement. Remington was critically injured in a 1999 logging accident and soon afterward decided to re-dedicate his life to help find a cure for the partial paralysis he incurred from a crushed spine Remington's annual benefit events have raised money for the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, which is dedicated to finding treatments and cures for paralysis caused by spinal cord injuries. Christopher Reeve was the star of the three Superman films in the late 1970s and 1980s. "Not only does Scott work tirelessly to make this event a success, but he is also regularly willing to talk one-on-one with local spinal cord injury survivors, offering support and advice on how to improve their quality of life," said Casey Clark, physical therapist at Glens Falls Hospital's Rehabilitation and Wellness Center. "There's no doubt that Scott will continue to make a difference for people both locally and nationally through his work with the foundation." Contacted July 25, Glens Falls Hospital Outpatient Therapy Manager Lisa Touse offered her thoughts about Remington's long-standing dedication to improving the lives of others. "Scott is a great person; he's got a great attitude — he's very uplifting, and his foundation is fantastic, doing great work," she said. "He's taken a personal tragedy and made it inspirational for others. He's like family to us." Remington credited all the people who have donated to his "Family & Friends" organization, year after year, supporting spinal cord research. Clark also praised the generosity of people and businesses, primarily of northern Warren County, for their enduring generosity, noting their "tremendous support" of the Remingtons' fundraisers. Remington said that Glens Falls Hospital's staff deserves credit for helping thousands of people regain their mobility and boost their quality of life — and they even hold bake sales to raise money for his charity. "They help out a lot of people at the Wellness Center through their outpatient physical therapy services," he said. "They are such good people down there at the hospital."
