'Taste of Diamond Point' set for Saturday

DIAMOND POINT | Dozens of fine food enthusiasts will be gathering on the lawn of the Diamond Point Community Church this Saturday to socialize while savoring samplings of gourmet edibles prepared by area restaurants and delicatessens, while providing vital support for a local historic chapel. Ten area establishments will be offering samples of their cuisine in the 17th annual "A Taste of Diamond Point" event, to be held from noon to 2 p.m. July 26 on the grounds of the church at 3699 Lakeshore Drive. The family-friendly fest will feature live music performed by renowned pianist Ray Alexander, a silent auction, and a series of raffles for prizes donated by local businesses. Attendees will be paying $1 for each food sample, but admission to the event is free, and donations are encouraged. Soft drinks and cold water will also be available for $1. The event will be held rain or shine, as tents will shield people from precipitation. In past years, various acclaimed chefs have provided some unique concoctions. The restaurant or deli represented at the event that collects the most tickets wins the People's Choice trophy. Chris McKenna, a trustee of the church, said that the event annually raises awareness about the congregation's activities as well as showcasing the culinary talents of area chefs. "We are thrilled to welcome neighbors, friends, area residents, and vacationing visitors to join us for an afternoon of fun and fellowship," he said. "This is our only fundraiser, and public participation helps us continue the mission of this 149-year-old church." Established in 1876, Diamond Point Community Church is a vibrant, welcoming congregation dedicated to sharing the Word of the Lord through service, worship and community engagement, event publicist Buzz Lamb said this week.
