Strong Moody's review boosts Clinton Co.'s credit rating

PLATTSBURGH | Clinton County has received a boost to its credit rating following a recent review by Moody's Investors Service, a testament to the County's prudent fiscal management, strategic investments, and long-term economic vision, officials said. The rating upgrade—an important indicator of the County's financial health and creditworthiness—positions Clinton County to secure more favorable borrowing terms for future infrastructure and development projects, ultimately saving taxpayer dollars and strengthening public services. "This is an important and affirming moment for Clinton County," said Legislative Chairperson Mark Henry (R-Area 3, Chazy). "The rating increase is more than just a number—it's recognition of the thoughtful leadership of our Legislature, the hard work of our dedicated staff, and the collective efforts we've made to build a stable, forward-looking financial foundation for our residents." County Administrator Michael Zurlo noted that the rating upgrade did not come by accident. "This is the result of years of disciplined budgeting, responsible debt management, and a commitment to transparency. We've worked hard to maintain healthy reserves, control expenses, and make smart financial decisions that support long-term sustainability." The improved rating also underscores the County's momentum in economic development and strategic planning. "We've made deliberate investments to ensure Clinton County is positioned for future growth—from developing key sites like the Clinton County Business Innovation Gateway to strengthening partnerships that support housing, workforce development, and business expansion," said Molly Ryan, Clinton County Economic Development Director.
