Team 518 crowned at AuSable Forks fast-pitch tournament

AUSABLE FORKS | The 63rd annual AuSable Forks Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament was held this past weekend, with Team 518 from Amsterdam defeating Team Sandlot from Stevens, Pennsylvania, 1-0 early Sunday evening in an exciting championship game. The contest featured a thrilling pitching duel between Team 518 flamethrower Nahuel Saenz, who threw a one-hitter and struck out 10 batters, and Team Sandlot's Erick Chaparro, who took a hard-luck loss despite striking out 15 and allowing just one hit. Team 518 also won the tournament in 2024 and will return next year to compete for a three-peat. With the championship, Team 518 earned $1,800 in prize money and received the Sharkey Patnode, Arthur and Thomas Douglas and Tom O'Neil Memorial awards. They also earned an automatic bid to the 2026 International Softball Congress World Tournament, to be held in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Team Sandlot received $900 in prize money and the Vic Seguin Memorial Award for its second-place finish. Finishing in third place in the round-robin tournament format were the Quebec U-23 team from Quebec City and Team Quebec from Donnacona, Quebec. Each team earned $250 in prize money. Team Quebec received the Mark Devins Memorial Trophy, while Quebec U-23 was awarded the Bob Joyal Memorial Trophy. Saenz was named the Billy Mitchell Memorial Most Valuable Pitcher, and his teammate, second baseman Brock Roggie, earned the Bob and Jimmy Mousseau Memorial Most Valuable Player award. Ten memorial all-star awards were presented: Gordon Family Award – Andre Hoover, Team Sandlot George Goyette Award – Brock Roggie, Team 518 Joe Zeno Award – Joey Rousseau, Quebec U-23 Jim and Barb Booth Award – Dustin Rutt, Team 518 Doc Zacek Award – Greg Garrity, Team Quebec Brent Isham Award – Dennis Hurtarte, Team 518 Laura Razzano Award – Elias Geyman, Team Sandlot Paul "PK" Coolidge Award – Nahuel Saenz, Team 518 Coach Ned Hoey Award – Erick Chaparro, Team Sandlot Hall of Fame Award – Gabriel Desilets, Team Quebec Tournament director Adam Coolidge said, "We had a tremendous weekend with fans witnessing some incredible play during intense heat." Tournament spokesman Randy Douglas added, "Plans are already underway for the 64th annual tournament, scheduled for July 10-12, 2026."
