Lake Placid Sinfonietta's next park concert July 16

LAKE PLACID | The next mid-week summer concert by the Lake Placid Sinfonietta opens with some light classical selections on Wednesday, July 16 at 7 p.m. in the Paul White Memorial Shell at Mid's Park in the center of Lake Placid. The concert, "Chiaroscuro," is free and open to the public and will last about one hour. The concert will be a delightful and dynamic journey through strong contrasts in musical styles, each piece highlighting unique cultural and emotional landscapes as performed by the Lake Placid Sinfonietta. If weather does not allow an outdoor performance, the concert will be moved to St. Agnes Church on Saranac Avenue and will begin at 7:15 p.m. Announcements of a change in location will be posted by 5 p.m. on Facebook or at 518-523-2051. The Wednesday evening Lake Placid Sinfonietta park concerts are family friendly, free and open to the public and a good choice for families with young children who will be encouraged to get up and dance to the music. Limited seating is available in the park so patrons are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair to sit on. If the weather requires a move to the rain site of St. Agnes church, the audience will enjoy the excellent acoustics of the church along with ample parking and a delayed 7:15 p.m. start time. Moves to the rain site are announced on radio stations WSLP and NCPR, and on the LPSinfonietta Facebook page. In addition to sponsorship from Champlain National Bank, the Park Series concerts are supported with funding from the Village of Lake Placid, Town of North Elba and an Essex County Arts Council CAP grant with funding provided by Essex County. The orchestra's regular weekly concert is Saturday, July 19, titled "Fire and Rain," featuring Mozart, Rossini, Lehár, and Hubay with concertmaster Daniel Szasz performing on violin. The program opens with Gioachino Rossini's energetic and comedic Italiana in Algeri Overture.The concert was moved to Saturday because many roads are closed for the Lake Placid Ironman extreme sports event on Sunday. The performance is at 7:30 p.m. at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts at 17 Algonquin Ave. Tickets are available online at lakeplacidsinfonietta.org/concerts2025 or by calling the LPCA box office at (518) 523-2512.
