Mariners win 5th straight tournament, improve to 31-1

BINGHAMTON | The Clinton County Mariners keep on rolling. The area's American Legion baseball team captured its fifth consecutive tournament championship with a 12-2 win over the Rockland County Pirates on July 13 at Conlon Field. With the victory, Clinton County improved to a remarkable 31-1 and continued its pursuit of the program's single-season wins record of 35, set in 2001. The Mariners fell behind 1-0 early but responded with four runs in the bottom of the first inning, sparked by RBI singles from Scott LaMountain, Jordan Perry and Nate Baker. Clinton County added four more runs in the third, highlighted by Gabe Moore's RBI single and a two-run home run by Seth Petrashune. Clinton kept the pressure on with two-run frames in both the fourth and fifth innings to enforce the mercy rule. Left-hander Steven Bronson earned the win on the mound, tossing a complete game. He allowed three hits, two earned runs and three walks while striking out three over five innings. Clinton County tallied 13 hits in the win. Petrashune finished 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs. Baker drove in three runs from the No. 8 spot, going 1-for-3. LaMountain, Perry and Landen Duprey each had two hits, while Moore added a hit, a run and two RBIs. The Mariners played error-free defense and turned two double plays. Duprey led the team with seven defensive chances. Rockland County managed just three hits, two by Steven Barbosa. Kaden Miller and Jayson Espinal accounted for the team's two RBIs. Starter Chase Perini took the loss after surrendering eight runs on eight hits over 2⅔ innings. Clinton County returns to action July 16 on the road against the Champlain Mariners. The Green Mountain Baseball League club is comprised of current and former college players. They handed Clinton County its only loss, an 11-6 game on June 25 at American Legion Post 1619. Miller fans 14 in semifinal shutout BINGHAMTON | Left-hander Warren Miller struck out 14 in a complete-game shutout to lead the Clinton County Mariners to a 5-0 victory over the Newburgh Nuclears in the semifinal round of the 2025 Gil Wood Invitational Tournament. Miller was dominant from start to finish, allowing just three hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings. The southpaw overpowered Newburgh's lineup with a mix of velocity and control, recording at least one strikeout in every inning. Clinton County broke the scoring open in the third inning when Scott LaMountain grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Braeden Calkins. The Mariners added two more runs in the fourth on a two-run homer to right field by Seth Petrashune, batting from the No. 9 spot. Petrashune led the offense, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a walk. LaMountain was 1-for-3 with an RBI, while Calkins scored a run and went 1-for-4. Landen Duprey contributed 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk. Jordan Perry reached base twice, stole two bases and scored a run. Miller also helped himself at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a run scored, an RBI and two walks. The Mariners showed patience at the plate, drawing six walks in all, and were aggressive on the bases, stealing six bags as a team. Clinton County played errorless defense behind Miller's dominant pitching. Connor Hollenbeck took the loss for Newburgh, allowing five runs on four hits over four innings. He walked five and struck out one.
