Pearsall Foundation expands its board of directors

JOHNSBURG | As the Glenn and Carol Pearsall Adirondack Foundation observes its 25th anniversary, the leaders of the philanthropic foundation have expanded its board of trustees by three members. For a quarter-century, the Pearsall Foundation has adhered to its mission of improving the quality of life for year-round residents of the Adirondacks. Over that time, the foundation has awarded more than 600 grants totaling more than $1.4 million. Board member Sara Pearsall said the board was expanded "to bring fresh perspective and valuable insight...in preparation for the future." Matt Strickland, Sarah Carney, and Kenneth Sarzynski were chosen to join the board of trustees. "Each (has) a strong commitment to the Adirondack region and a background in community engagement," Sara Pearsall said of the newly chosen board members in a prepared statement. Strickland is an outdoor industry sales professional managing wholesale relationships in the northeastern U.S. and lives in Warrensburg with his wife, Sarah Carney. He currently serves on the board of the 360 Adventure Collective and has supported numerous area not-for-profits, including the Feeder Canal Alliance and the Brant Lake Canoe Race. Carney is an elementary orchestra teacher and volleyball coach in the Capital District. "Sarah is an avid outdoor enthusiast and has worked to create accessible recreation opportunities in the region," Pearsall said, noting that Carney and Strickland revitalized the Brant Lake Canoe Race in 2019 and Carney continues to coordinate the annual event. Sarzynski has supported the foundation for years by designing the website, managing the grant database, and developing application systems, Pearsall said. A native of Binghamton, Sarzynski is an outdoor enthusiast who has hiked both the Appalachian Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail. Also, he has worked on trail crews, helped provide radio communications for athletic competitions in the Adirondacks. He recently relocated to Arizona, where he is training in search and rescue procedures. The period during which applications are accepted for 2025–26 grants from the Pearsall Foundation extends from July 1 through Aug. 31, and Adirondack not-for-profit organizations are encouraged to apply online.
