Adirondack Film enters partnership with historic regional theaters

LAKE PLACID | For nearly 25 years, Adirondack Film has been committed to advancing the art and appreciation of film in the region. In addition to the Lake Placid Film Festival and seasonal programming in Lake Placid, a new initiative looks set to expand the organization's reach even further. This season, Adirondack Film is collaborating with the historic Adirondack State Theater in Tupper Lake, the renowned Indian Lake Theater in Indian Lake, and the timeless Strand Theater in Schroon Lake on unique cinematic events. As part of the partnership, Adirondack Film is assisting the three regional theaters with classic and local film programming to serve its communities. "The Strand Theatre in Schroon Lake is pleased to work with the Adirondack State Theater, Indian Lake Theater, Adirondack Film, and the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts Statewide Community Regrants program on special movie programming at each theater, especially over the summer," says Strand Theater owner, Liz McNamara. The partnership will begin this summer with a series of classic film screenings that are sure to excite film lovers and community members alike. In July, a series of Charlie Chaplin shorts will be screened at the Adirondack State and Strand theaters with live scores provided by acclaimed silent film accompanist Ben Model. In August, the Strand and Adirondack State theaters will host an anniversary screening of the James Bond hit, "From Russia With Love". The seminal 007 film will feature a special introduction from Turner Classic Movies (TCM) host and film historian, Jeremy Arnold. "Tupper Arts is excited to have the Adirondack State Theater partner with the Strand Theater in Schroon Lake and Adirondack Film to present both film screenings," says Tupper Arts President, Susan Delehanty. "These movies will give our audiences a taste of two different cinema genres from the archives of America's great films." There is also discussion regarding the theaters acting as satellite venues during the Lake Placid Film Festival. This would allow audiences from across the Adirondacks to take part in the premiere film event in the region, without having to make the trek to Lake Placid. With these outstanding and persevering organizations, in addition to the incredible The Palace Theater in Lake Placid, we hope to further assist in bringing upstate premieres, award-winning independent films, and intriguing discussions on classic films to our region," says Adirondack Film board chairman, Gary Smith.
