New collaborative book to benefit Lake George conservation

TICONDEROGA | A brand new ABC book has hit the shelves of local shops in the area, and this one isn't meant merely for children. Lake George Journey, by local authors Tamara Jacobi and Walter Wright, celebrates the Queen of American Lakes while offering a little something for each individual in the family. "In a digital era full of modern distractions, this book offers a refreshing hardcover break from technology and a return to community, learning, and purpose through its blend of storytelling, visuals, and bite-sized facts," noted Jacobi. "Everyone will enjoy the playful short stories and can pick up this book as a resource- to learn, to reflect, or simply reconnect with the magic of the lake. This unique format is designed to engage, educate, and inspire lake love." The book celebrates nature, history, culture, and community for all generations. Blending playful alphabet storytelling, I-spy artwork, and educational facts, Lake George Journey is for residents, visitors, and anyone who has a love affair with the lake. Created in collaboration with the Lake George Association (LGA) and the Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) and made possible in part from a Lower Adirondack Region Arts Council (LARAC) artist grant, Lake George Journey made its debut at the LGA's Lake Protector Summit last month. Contributions and support also came from Waterkeeper Alliance, Darrin Freshwater Institute, and The Arts Project. Proceeds from the book will benefit local conservation and education initiatives. Seven local artists created artwork for the book pro bono, their skills ranging from traditional watercolor to digital art. Contributing artists were Chris Quinn, Shay DeRusso, Wendy Soliday, Kathleen Becker, Andrew Thompson, Shaundra Bartlett, and Ottavia Huang. "I am deeply grateful to the artists whose brilliance and creativity brought this A-Z book to life," Jacobi said. "Each with a different style, they came together to beautifully showcase the spirit and beauty of Lake George." Sunday, Aug. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Silvery Bay YMCA, the Wright family will engage audiences in an author presentation, while accompanied by contributing artists. Friday, Aug. 15 at the Courthouse Gallery in Lake George Village, Jacobi and Wright will host an author signing and reading. Original book art from the seven artists will be on display and for sale. "We are not selling the book on Amazon," Jacobi added. "We are doing our best to support local." Lake George Journey is currently available for sale at Fort Ticonderoga, Small Town Boutique, Fox & Fern Adirondack Mercantile, and Ticonderoga Naturals Foods Co-op, the Hague Market, the Silvery Bay General Store, and the Silver Bay YMCA store, and at www.adklakelove.com.
