Keene CSD appoints Cynthia Ford-Johnston Interim Superintendent

KEENE VALLEY | At its regular meeting on June 17, the Keene Central School Board of Education unanimously appointed Cynthia Ford-Johnston as Interim Superintendent of Schools, effective Aug. 1. This appointment marks a homecoming for Ford-Johnston, a respected educational leader with deep ties to both the school and the greater Adirondack community. Ford-Johnston brings more than four decades of experience in public education to the role. A native of Clintonville, N.Y., she holds a Bachelor of Science in Art Education from SUNY New Paltz as well as a Master's degree and Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Administration from SUNY Plattsburgh. Her distinguished career spans a range of positions, including art teacher, gifted and talented educator, principal, and superintendent. Notably, Ford-Johnston previously served as superintendent of Keene Central School for 16 years, earning recognition for her dedication to students, staff, and the community. Since stepping down from her permanent position, she has remained active in education, providing steady leadership as interim superintendent in several neighboring districts, including Westport, Peru, and Ticonderoga Central Schools. Outside of her work in education, Ford-Johnston and her husband, David, are co-founders and operators of DaCy Meadow Farm in Westport, an endeavor that reflects their deep commitment to sustainable agriculture and community engagement. "We are thrilled to welcome Cynthia back to Keene," said Board of Education President Jen Kazmierczak. "Her deep knowledge of our district, combined with her proven leadership and unwavering commitment to education, make her the ideal person to guide us during this period of transition. Her return brings not only experience but also a personal investment in the success of our school and our students." Kazmierczak also expressed gratitude for outgoing Superintendent Dan Mayberry, who has served the district with distinction for 13 years. "We are immensely grateful for Dan's thoughtful leadership and tireless dedication. His continued support during this transition has been invaluable, and we wish him the very best in his future endeavors." As part of its ongoing leadership planning, the Keene Central School District is partnering with Champlain Valley Educational Services (CVES) District Superintendent Dr. Mark Davey to initiate the search for a permanent superintendent.
