ALCA announces Celebration Weekend at new home

BLUE MOUNTAIN LAKE | The Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts (ALCA) has announced a festive Celebration Weekend on Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 29, filled with community, culture, and creativity. The centerpiece of the weekend will be a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony at noon on Saturday to celebrate the opening of ALCA's new permanent lakeside home, a milestone marking an exciting new chapter in the organization's ongoing legacy of arts and engagement in the heart of the Adirondacks, with the theme "Arts For All." Adding to the excitement, the weekend features the return of the beloved No-Octane Regatta, a whimsical race of human-powered watercraft that invites ingenuity, humor, and a "splash" of friendly competition. The new home of ALCA is located at 8897 State Rte. 30, Blue Mountain Lake. For more information and tickets, go to adirondackarts.org. "Our new home represents a renewed commitment to the arts in the Adirondacks, and the return of the Regatta reminds us of the joy and creativity that fuel everything we do." Weekend highlights will include: Saturday, June 28: 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. No-Octane Regatta. Cheer on (or join!) the participants in this fun, family-friendly race featuring handcrafted, non-motorized boats on the waters of Blue Mountain Lake. Join ALCA staff, community leaders, and supporters for the official opening of the new ALCA facility. Singer/songwriter Bob Stump will provide music through the afternoon. Light refreshments to follow. 2 p.m. Second Gallery Round Artists' Reception. This vibrant visual arts celebration includes a book launch by award-winning photographer Russ Hartung, whose first book of Adirondack landscape and wildlife photography is being published by Globe Pequot in partnership with North Country Books. The reception also showcases: Sandra Hildreth exhibiting Points of View, a new series of Adirondack scenes in oil Roberley Bell, Sarah Barman, and Jen Simms presenting Haptic Home, a collaborative mixed-media exploration of memory, material, and domesticity, curated by Sandy Litchfield. 7:30 p.m. Kick-off of the 2025 Weekend Concert Series: Schwarz Bournaki Duo. Enjoy an exquisite performance by these renowned artists featuring cello and piano in an evening of classical brilliance. Solomon Speakers Series: "The Art of the Traditional Boat." Join Hallie Bond, Leigh Hornbeck, and Everett Smith for an engaging presentation on the craftsmanship, history, and cultural significance of traditional boats in the Adirondacks. This event is free and open to the public. Founded in 1967, ALCA has long served as a cornerstone of the cultural life of the Adirondacks, offering performances, exhibitions, workshops, and arts education. This Celebration Weekend honors that legacy while launching a new era of expanded programs and community connection.
