Body of missing murder victim believed to have been found

FRANKLIN | Authorities believe they have recovered the remains of a Plattsburgh man who was shot and killed inside a Peru residence before the New Year. Jahfari Joseph's remains were believed to have been located during a multi-agency coordinated search along Route 26 in the Town of Franklin Thursday. During the search by New York State Police and New York State Forest Rangers, authorities recovered a deceased male who was tentatively identified as the missing 40-year-old murder victim. The Franklin County Coroner's Office, represented by Coroner Myron O. Leonard Jr., responded to the scene and authorized the removal of the body. An autopsy will be conducted Sunday, Feb. 16 at Glens Falls Hospital for positive identification. Joseph is believed to have been shot and killed during an argument with Timothy Timmons, 61, of Plattsburgh inside a Peru residence Dec. 29. Both his remains and the murder weapon remained missing following Timmons's arrest for second-degree murder. His arrest was made following the execution of several search warrants, cell phone evidence and witness-related interviews as law enforcement followed hundreds of leads in the case and searched various properties across Clinton and Franklin counties in the weeks since. Timmons has pleaded not guilty in the case and remains in custody. State Police and Forest Rangers were assisted Thursday by the Plattsburgh City Police Department and Duane Fire Department. The investigation was ongoing Thursday night and no further details were available at that time.
