ADK Healthy Hub now open

TICONDEROGA | Downtown Ticonderoga is getting a boost of energy to its shopping corridor, and also to the community's holistic well-being. The ADK Healthy Hub, located at 84 Montcalm Street, has opened its doors and will be delivering a variety of clean energy beverages and healthy shakes, in addition to providing residents and visitors with wellness-centered events and activities. "I can help people with meal planning, with information for products, I plan on having weight loss challenges here, I am bringing in a yoga instructor, and I would like to get a step instructor," Johnson said of her plans. "In addition to the clean energy drinks, protein iced coffee, protein meal replacement shakes, I also want to have food options like java protein snacks, acai bowls, protein waffles, and dough bites." Johnson is no stranger to the business of owning a nutrition club, she ran Safe Haven Nutrition in Port Henry for four years, and Every BODY in Schroon Lake for another two. ADK Healthy Hub will feature Herbalife products and recipes. Johnson has been an independent distributor with Herbalife for years, a nationwide total nutrition company that is in over 94 counties. In business since 1985, Johnson credits Herbalife with helping people enjoy healthy lives through the use of their products, promoting fitness, and healthy eating choices. "I wish I knew more about nutrition and fitness and healthy eating when I was younger. 85 percent of Americans are overweight, and even if you are not, everybody needs to eat healthier, this country is full of bad food options," Johnson observed. "I really want to be here- especially for young families and children- so they can grow up healthy." In the few weeks since opening, Johnson has made it her mission to provide exemplary customer service, acknowledging that a cheery, inviting environment and a genuine smile make people feel welcome and more apt to return. "I love the drinks but I like that it is local and I love the smiling face that makes my beverages," said Peyton Wood, a frequent customer. Woods gets the usual, the "Boss Babe," a colorful blend of pomegranate, pineapple, raspberry, strawberry, watermelon, and pineapple. With only a fraction of a gram of sugar, Johnson said her selection of energy drinks have a slew of B vitamins, antioxidants, and boast virtually no sugar crash afterward. "The teas help metabolism, it is good clean energy and people can customize how much caffeine they want in their drink," explained Johnson. "Some people handle it better, so I offer four different levels of caffeine." As for the assortment of shakes, they are a healthy meal replacement and have everything the body needs to constitute a meal. "They differ from protein shakes, they have 21 essential vitamins and minerals, 24 grams of plant-based protein, and are low on the glycemic index so they are safe for diabetics," Johnson revealed. "They are used not just for weight loss but can also be used for weight gain; if you are underweight, they help you gain muscle mass instead of fat. They are a good healthy breakfast for breakfast skippers to help get your body ready for the day." Johnson is hopeful that once her patrons are introduced to and experience Herbalife's numerous and palatable choices, they will also be compelled to order their own supplies of their favorite beverages to make at home, which she believes would save them money in the long run. ADK Healthy Hub's owner is also cognizant that Ticonderoga is lacking in entertainment and healthy options- not just nutritionally speaking- for the younger generation. She has carved out a corner of her business for children to play, which will allow families to patronize the club and give parents a few moments of precious "me time." Eventually, there will be movie nights and crafts, with Johnson seeking to make good, positive use of her new space, desiring also to collaborate with other local businesses to offer expanded entertainment for residents. "There are a lot of kids that are not taking healthy oaths," Johnson said. "If you can encourage healthy things young, it is more likely they will continue a healthy path in the future." Beginning Feb. 23, yoga instructor Cholena Kasa will be offering classes at ADK Healthy Hub Sundays at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 12 p.m. "This practice is a fun adventure and you never know exactly what to expect," Kasa teased. "Calm, meditative, stretchy, sometimes powerful, dancing, breath, manta, all perfectly suitable to whatever level you may be experiencing on any given day." There is no preregistration required for the class, participants are encouraged to just show up in comfortable clothing with their own mat or blanket. ADK Healthy Hub will be open Mondays, Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
