Search for murder victim's remains continues

PLATTSBURGH | As Jahfari Joseph's family continues to mourn his loss and publicly pleas for any information into the whereabouts of his remains, the exhaustive multi-agency search for those answers continues. As of Tuesday- two weeks into the search- more than 225 leads have been investigated alongside many interviews and the execution of numerous warrants. New York State Police said their extensive efforts "will continue to work vigorously until Joseph's body is located." The case remains an active investigation, police said Jan. 21. Law enforcement again urged anyone with information to contact State Police at 518-563-3761. Those pleas have been echoed daily across local social media pages and platforms by Joseph's loved ones who hope to lay their son and brother to rest with proper respect. Condolences and candlelight remembrances have continued since the case began- initially as a missing-persons case and quickly into a murder investigation that led to the arrest of a 61-year-old Plattsburgh man. Timothy Timmons is accused of second-degree murder in the case, believed to have shot the 40-year-old Brooklyn native inside a Peru residence Dec. 29 following a family-related dispute. Joseph's family reported him missing as the New Year's holiday passed without any word and their worry about his continued silence to family and friends mounted. Timmons was swiftly arrested following the execution of search warrants, the recovery of cellphone data and witness interviews. He has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody at Clinton County Jail as the search for the murder weapon and Joseph's remains enters a third week. Authorities have called the search for Joseph's remains aggressive and exhaustive involving miles of organized grid searches across several properties spanning Plattsburgh and Saranac, complete with ATVs, drones, K-9s and specialized search and tactical teams. The searches have involved New York State Police, New York State DEC Forest Rangers, the Tri-County Special Response Team, Plattsburgh City Police Department, Clinton County Sheriff's Office, Department of Environmental Conservation and Homeland Security Investigations in close collaboration with the Clinton County District Attorney's Office.
