Bolton boys, girls score huge MVAC wins

BOLTON LANDING | Bolton and Schroon Lake's boys and girls basketball teams have proved to be the best in Section VII Class D this season. The Eagles captured state-ranked wins over their Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference foe on Tuesday, Jan. 7, and Wednesday, Jan. 8. Boys Tuesday, Jan. 7 BOLTON 58 SCHROON LAKE/NEWCOMB 55 SCHROON LAKE | The 14th-ranked Eagles closed on a 7-4 run over the final 1 minute, 58 seconds. Sullivan Eager supplied Bolton with its final lead by converting an and-1 opportunity in the paint with just under two minutes remaining. Jace Hubert grabbed Eager's missed free throw and drew a shooting foul underneath. He made 1-of-2 attempts to extend the Eagles' advantage to 54-51 with 1:55 to play. Jaxon Egloff took over from there. The sophomore and 1,000-point scorer sank a 15-foot floater with 1:22 left, and he swished two free throws over the final 22 seconds. With the win, Bolton improved to 6-1 overall. Girls Wednesday, Jan. 8 BOLTON 43 SCHROON LAKE 37 BOLTON LANDING | Freshman Ella Hens buried four 3-pointers on her way to a game-high 14 points. Juniors Maille Kelley and Jadynn Egloff combined their efforts to contribute a total of 17 points, with Kelley scoring nine and Egloff adding eight. Thea Kennedy supplied the 16th-ranked Eagles with two field goals and two free throws for six points. Carly Smith anchored the 11th-ranked Wildcats with 11 points, and Schroon Lake's Olivia Hartwell contributed nine.
