Next Glens Falls Repair Café is Nov. 2

GLENS FALLS | The next Glens Falls Repair Cafe will take place on Sat, Nov. 2, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Crandall Public Library's Christine L. McDonald Community Room. Area residents are invited to bring up to several household or personal items in need of repair. (Enter at the Glen Street entrance and take the stairs or elevator downstairs to the community room.) Volunteer repair experts from the community will assist with repairs at no charge. They will come prepared with appropriate tools and some common spare parts. The repair coaches bring practical know-how in fields such as general repair, woodworking, electrical appliances, electronics, sewing and textiles, jewelry-making and leather work. If you are bringing items to be fixed, make sure to bring any cords, chargers, and replacement parts you happen to have. People are asked to limit the number of items they bring for repair to two or three. When an item can't be fixed, often a repair coach can identify what part is needed or give the owner tips on what they could do to get it fixed. At previous Repair Cafés, repair coaches helped fix a wide range of functional and decorative items, including a sewing machine, blender, clock radio, cassette player, record player, Sony Walkman, convection oven, vacuum cleaners, and a number of lamps. Also wooden chairs, a folding table, heirloom jewelry, luggage and a pocketbook, and garden tools were all given new life. Many people brought in clothing and other textiles that were ripped or needed to be hemmed, or required other sorts of TLC. The Glens Falls Repair Café is a joint project of Zero Waste Warren County and the Crandall Public Library, with support from the Touba Family Foundation in its first year.
