SARANAC LAKE | The Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation (ACLC) invites everyone to celebrate common loons, familiar icon of the Adirondacks and the North Country, at the Paul Smith's College VIC, 8023 NYS Rte. 30, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 13. This (mostly) free, family-friendly event will feature loon-related activities throughout the day: 9 a.m.–12 p.m.: Guided Paddle with ACLC research biologists (donation/charge). Space is limited, so preregistration required; more information is available at www.adkloon.org/events. 1-4:30 p.m.: Visit with Adirondack Loon Center staff, enjoy delicious food by Left Bank Café (charged), fun children's activities, join our exciting Loon Calling Contest, learn about loons during our special guest presentation by Adirondack loon naturalist Gary Lee, and help support the Loon Center with its loony silent auction and raffle for a Hornbeck canoe. 1–2 p.m.: Music and socializing in the Great Room 2:15 p.m.: Loon Calling Contest 3-3:15 p.m.: Brief presentation about the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation 3:15–4:15 p.m.: Loon rescue presentation by Gary Lee, retired NYS Forest Ranger and Adirondack Loon Naturalist 4:15 p.m.: Hornbeck canoe raffle drawing and silent auction ends The last event of the day will be the drawing for the winning raffle ticket for a 10' Classic Hornbeck canoe. The boat can be custom fit by Hornbeck for the winner or they can trade it in for a different style. Raffle tickets are $20 each or six for $100.
