Adk. Invasive Species Summit set for North Creek

NORTH CREEK | Various environmental professors, groups, and scientists primarily from the northeastern U.S. — and individuals concerned about the incursion of plants and creatures foreign to Adirondack ecosystems — will be gathering in North Creek soon to discuss potential remedies for the growing problem. This program, titled the Adirondack Invasive Species Summit, will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 10 in the Tannery Pond Community Center at 228 Main St. in North Creek NY, 12853. The summit features discussions about climate change and its present and potential impacts on the spread of invasive species in Adirondack forests, fields, and waterways. The day-long event will review climate adaptation and how innovative gene technology can aid in combatting, managing and tracking the spread of invasive species. Program presenters include environmental, climate, botanical, and genomic experts now working for governmental and non-profit agencies in the field of invasive species research and/or management. People from a wide region are expected to attend. The summit is sponsored by the Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program, whose officials expect people to register in advance through their website at: https://www.adkinvasives.com/events.
