Fay, Boulds shine at Section VII XC Invitational

CADYVILLE | Lake Placid's Aidan Fay and Saranac's Sienna Boulds scored first-place finishes at the 13th annual Section VII Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 21 at Cadyville Recreation Park. Fay covered the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes, 59 seconds to best 99 other runners and win the boys' race. Beekmantown sophomore Nolan Laidman crossed the finish line only five seconds behind Fay to finish runner-up. Saranac's Sean Dormann joined them on the podium after posting a 17:09. Beekmantown's Jonathan Slick and Seton Catholic sophomore Colby Chase completed the top five at 17:35 and 17:46, respectively. AuSable Valley's Celton Dupuis (18:00), Saranac's Noah Thayer (18:07), Beekmantown's Loghan Strickland (18:12) and Maxime Page (18:16) and Massena's Andrew David (18:17) rounded out the top 10. With a 17:59 race average, Beekmantown won the team title with 41 points. It was followed by Saranac (70), Peru (106), Saranac Lake (143), AuSable Valley (147), Section X's Norwood-Norfolk (148) and Massena (151), Ticonderoga (152), Lake Placid (153) and Northeastern Clinton (281). In the girls' competition, Boulds posted a time of 19:31 to outlast the field of 76 participants. Norwood-Norfolk's Madison Carista finished 14 seconds off Boulds' winning time, and Saranac's Laura Denial recorded a podium finish at 20:03. Peru freshman Maddy Welc (20:26) and Norwood-Norfolk's Allie Snell (20:32) registered fourth and fifth-place finishes, respectively. Sixth through 10th was comprised of Lake Placid seventh-grader Leila Fey (20:46), Lake Placid's Kai McKinnon (21:03), Beekmantown freshman Olivia Drowne (21:46), Saranac Lake freshman Cadence Kennedy (21:54) and Norwood-Norfolk eighth-grader Rebekah Colbert (22:00). Norwood-Norfolk, only one of two Section X programs competing in the field along with Massena, won the team title with 46 points and an average race time of 21:26. Saranac (65) and Lake Placid (67) were neck and neck for second and third. They were followed by Saranac Lake (114), Beekmantown (116), Peru (117), AuSable Valley (183), Northeastern Clinton (194) and Massena (236).
