Bolton-Wbg. girls split week's games

BOLTON LANDING | The Warrensburg-Bolton Girls Soccer Team competed in two high-scoring games last week, the first in which they won in a shutout and the second which ended in a loss — their first of the season. On Sept. 17, the B-W girls defeated North Warren 11-0 in an Adirondack League matchup. Eight Bolton-Warrensburg athletes scored in the game, including four players with their first career goals: seniors Maria Fruda and Chloe Rumble and juniors Halley LaBrecque and Danica Staepel. Senior Madison Goodspeed led her team with three goals. Contributing one goal each were seniors Ava Millington and Megan Langworthy, and juniors Maille Kelley and Hailey Goodspeed. Providing assists were Kelly, Staepel, Madison Goodspeed, freshman Ella Hens, and senior Avril LaFountain. Senior goaltender Emma Anand was credited with the shutout. North Warren goalie Jessica Paul played well, B-W coach Scott Smith said. "Jessica made many many great saves," he said. BOLTON-WBG. 1, MORIAH 8 On Sept. 21, B-W girls lost a non-league game to Moriah by a score of 8-1 — as the Vikings' strategic, unrelenting offense and solid defense proved difficult to combat. The Viking's offense was led by senior Amelia Kazlo and junior Alexis Macarenas with three goals each, followed by junior Emma Harrington with one goal and two assists, Emmy Nephew with a goal, and seniors Emily Pinheiro and Maddy Gallo with one assist each and goaltender Maddy Eichen with seven saves. "Moriah is very good team," B-W coach Scott Smith said. "They outplayed us today in every aspect of the game." For Bolton-Warrensburg, Avril LaFountain scored a goal and dual goalies Ella Hens and Emma Anand collaborated for 12 saves. With the win, Moriah advances to 5-0 for 2024 while Bolton's record recedes to 5-1. Next up for the B-W girls is a non-league game on Sept. 23 against Section VII Ticonderoga, a league matchup with Fort Ann on Thursday, Sept. 26, and a game at Galway at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28. Meanwhile, Moriah was scheduled to face Ticonderoga at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25 and Boquet Valley at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27.
