Tyrell pleads guilty to murder

PLATTSBURGH | In a move that shocked prosecutors and family, Scott Tyrell formally admitted to murdering Lisa Dashnaw-Tyrell and pleaded guilty to all charges during an evidentiary hearing Monday. Clinton County District Attorney Andrew J. Wylie announced Tyrell's guilty plea to the indictment charging him with second-degree murder and concealment of a corpse. Tyrell was scheduled to appear in Clinton County Court for a suppression hearing to determine the admissibility of statements he made to New York State Police investigators May 31. Prior to the start of the 2 p.m. hearing before Judge Kevin Bruno, Tyrell's attorney Greg LaDuke advised the court of his intention to plead guilty to the entire indictment with sentencing left to the court. Tyrell, 58, had told police that sometime in late March 2024, before his birthday, April 4, that he had an argument with Lisa Dashnaw-Tyrell in the bedroom of their home located at 32 Reservoir Rd. in Peru. Tyrell told investigators he choked the beloved local mother until she was no longer breathing. Tyrell put his wife in the trunk of her rental car and kept her there until the vehicle was repossessed by Enterprise Rental Car agency on May 28. Dashnaw-Tyrell's remains were located in the trunk of the vehicle, after the car had been returned to the Enterprise location on Route 3 in the Town of Plattsburgh. The case was investigated by the New York State Police in collaboration with several local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. District Attorney Wylie said his office and the Dashnw family members were surprised by the defendant's plea but he stated that today's plea brings an end to this chapter of the case and some closure to the Dashnaw family. Wylie said he was thankful for the support he has received from the Dashnaw family throughout this process. Judge Bruno scheduled Tyrell to be sentenced on Nov. 18 at 1:30 p.m. Tyrell faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
