ADKX hosts third Xperience for All Inclusivity event

BLUE MOUNTAIN LAKE | Adirondack Experience (ADKX) will host the third annual Xperience for All event on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A celebration of outdoor activities, the event will introduce outdoor opportunities to those who are new or not comfortable exploring the region's woods and waterways on their own. Visitors of all abilities are invited to join workshops, games, hands-on demonstrations, and presentations, all designed to provide a foundation for safely enjoying outdoor recreation—whether through sports, birdwatching, or simply relaxing in nature. Admission is free for everyone on the day of the event. "We are thrilled to bring back Xperience for All for its third year," said Cheryl Braunstein, Director of Interpretation at ADKX. "This year's event highlights the importance of inclusive programming that welcomes everyone, ensuring that visitors of all backgrounds can immerse themselves in the Adirondack story in a meaningful and accessible way." More than 30 individuals and organizations will be present with resources and demonstrations that cover the basics of being in the Adirondack outdoors, such as how to safely get into a canoe and center yourself in nature. New groups and programs participating this year include: Access Wild Places: A nonprofit camp founded by North Country School alumna Inyene and houseparent Jess, designed to offer underrepresented children the chance to experience nature. Both founders will attend. BIPOC Nature Artists: Takeyce Walter, Emma Brittain-Hardy, and Ken Wilson showcase works inspired by the beauty of the outdoors. Emma's work, Black and Birdy, reflects her connection to nature and her ethnic identity, with a mission to inspire wonder in others. Nature Up North: A community-based initiative focused on fostering a connection to the North Country's natural environment and protecting its wild spaces. Spark Bird Project: A community science initiative gathering stories about people's love of birds, with research aimed at inclusively sparking interest in birdwatching. Wild Foods and Wilderness: Reality TV star Melanie Sawyer demonstrates her understanding of traditional and foraged foods and fire-starting, knowledge that helped her survive 43 days alone in the Arctic. Xperience for All embodies ADKX's commitment to Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion. The event's advisors have included regional BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ leaders as well as representatives from the Adirondack Diversity Initiative, SUNY-Potsdam, the Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK), Outdoor Afro, and the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA).
