ADK Folk Festival returns to Schroon Lake Aug. 11

SCHROON LAKE | The Schroon Lake Arts Council is once again hosting its free annual Adirondack Folk Music Festival, which takes place this year on Sunday, Aug. 11, from noon to 6 p.m. at the town park on Dock Street. For decades, the Adirondack Folk Music Festival has been building a well-deserved reputation as a major summertime mountain music venue. This year will mark its 34th run on the shores of beautiful Schroon Lake and the 50th year the Arts Council has been bringing live music to the area. With this year's theme being "The Roots of Adirondack Music," only well-seasoned musicians renowned widely for their unique interpretation of international "folk" have been selected. The audience will hear the influences of Ireland, France, French-Canadian, Celtic, Bluegrass, American blues, and Indigenous Peoples. Performing on the Helen Wildman Memorial stage are: Jamcrackers: An iconic Adirondack trio featuring Peggy Lynn, Dan Duggan and Dan Berggren House of Hamill: Upcycled Indie/Celtic trio featuring vocals, guitar and fiddle Vanaver Caravan: Hudson Valley-based company, their focus is on original international music and dance that has strongly influenced the "Adirondack style" Matoaka Little Eagle, singer, dancer, storyteller, and Julia Haines: Indigenous performance É.T.É: French Canadian trio perform Quebecoise music and step-dancing Three Quarter North: Classic bluegrass from Albany-based six-man group, with five on string instruments and one on drums. "The glue that holds all the Adirondack music together." While the focus is on the live international music, there is much more going on: Food trucks Craft kiosks Schroon Lake Association raffle CDs and other merchandise from performers 50th Anniversary Schroon Lake Live hats Bring blankets and lawn chairs. Although this is a free event, donations will be enthusiastically accepted. The lead sponsor for this year's Folk Festival is North Country Radio and is made possible by funding from the Decentralization Program, a reagent program of the New York State Council on the Arts, administered by the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts.
