Bolton Central's CEO to retire

BOLTON LANDING | Bolton Central School District Superintendent Michael Graney reflected this week on his 30-year career in education, days after announcing his retirement from his present post. Graney started his employment at Bolton Central in January 2013 as principal, then was promoted to the Superintendent position 18 months later. "I've thoroughly enjoyed my time at Bolton Central — It has been an amazing school district to work in," he said. "I've enjoyed working with a supportive school board and a committed faculty and staff who put the needs of our students first and foremost." Under Graney's leadership, Bolton Central has received multiple awards for its students' academic achievements and instructional excellence. Also, while Graney was superintendent, the school district collaborated with the Bolton Town Board for a new sports field. Built on the town landfill, it has served both the town's and the school district's needs for a recreational venue. Also, during Graney's tenure at Bolton Central, a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) curriculum was instituted. "Working at Bolton Central has been a professionally rewarding conclusion to my career in Education," Graney added, noting that his retirement was effective Sept. 15. The Bolton Central Board of Education accepted Graney's resignation at their July 8 board meeting, expressing "sincere appreciation" for his years of service. The school board is now determining a timeline for hiring Graney's replacement, and whether to hire an interim or permanent superintendent without delay, he said. "The board is now weighing their options to determine the best path forward for the district," he said, noting that he will be working with the board during the transition process. GRANEY WAS PRINCIPAL AT TICONDEROGA HIGH Before his employment at Bolton Central, he was the principal at Ticonderoga High School for about 11 years. Beforehand, he was an instructor and coach at Ticonderoga High for a half-dozen years. When he was hired at Bolton, the retiring Bolton superintendent praised Graney for his diverse experiences in Education, and for his strong relationship with the Ticonderoga community. July 24, Graney said he was looking forward to spending more time with his family. However, he is also taking on a position this September as Executive Director of Pupil Benefits Plan Inc. which provides accident insurance for students across New York State.
