Barton Mines inducted into state's Historic Business Preservation Registry

NORTH RIVER | Sen. Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury) presented the management and staff of Barton Mines Corporation (Barton) with a certificate inducting the company into the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry. Stec nominated Barton for this honor, citing its lengthy history and the continued importance the company has in the region through its operations in the towns of Johnsburg and Indian Lake and the City of Glens Falls. A family-owned business, Barton was founded in 1878 and remains a leader in the garnet abrasive products industry. In addition to its status within that field, Barton is also a leader in environmental stewardship and community service. Barton's Glens Falls headquarters, originally constructed in 1865, has been revitalized as a green office building. For these efforts, it was certified by the U.S. Green Building Council as LEED Platinum, the highest possible ranking. The company is also an active and engaged part of the community, employing approximately 100 people in the region, with an overall economic impact of approximately $20 million, and supporting numerous charities and civic organizations. For these reasons, Stec was proud to nominate and induct Barton into the state's Historic Business Preservation Registry. It was an honor to celebrate Barton today and present the team with its certificate of induction into the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry.
