Full schedule of fun for 2024 Mayor's Cup

PLATTSBURGH | The Plattsburgh Sunrise Rotary Club is proudly hosting the 47th annual Mayor's Cup Regatta & Festival on July 6. The Mayor's Cup Regatta & Festival is Sunrise Rotary's signature annual community event and has become synonymous with a celebration of Lake Champlain. Sunrise Rotary is passionate about protecting our natural resources and making them more accessible to the community. Proceeds from the sales of the Mayor's Cup t-shirts and donations from sponsors are critical to Sunrise Rotary's continued efforts to build and support projects like the Pavilion at Wilcox Dock, the Gazebo at the Samuel D. Champlain Park, the Max Moore Tree House at the SRT Trailhead and providing wheelchair accessibility to areas such as the Plattsburgh City Beach, Camp Tapawingo and the LaPierre Lane Park. "Sunrise Rotary is super excited because this year the date for the Mayor's Cup Regatta & Festival happens to fall on the Saturday following the 4th of July, making for an amazing opportunity for the community to enjoy a long weekend of great outdoor events," said Sue LeBlanc Durocher, Chair of the Mayor's Cup Regatta & Festival Committee and President of Sunrise Rotary. "The Club has been working tirelessly to develop new events that will attract more people not only to the Plattsburgh City Beach, home of the Festival, but to Plattsburgh's historic downtown and marina area." MAYOR'S CUP AT CITY BEACH (9 a.m.-2 p.m.) Last year Mayor's Cup drew over a thousand people to Plattsburgh's City Beach, and this year a myriad of activities are planned throughout the day. Parking is free for everyone on Saturday. The Cabana Bar will be open and food trucks will be onsite as well. Tickets can be purchased for a chance to win all sorts of fun raffle prizes. -5K race. Enjoy this beautiful 5k loop that takes you on a lovely wooded path that begins and ends right at the beach. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and race starts at 9:30 a.m. Fee $25 ($30 on day of race). Register at www.mayorscup.com. -Kids Fun Run (free) begins at 11 a.m. The 1K race along the beach is for kids 12 and under. -Sandcastle & Sculpture Contest sponsored by NAMI (National Association on Mental Illness) takes place throughout the morning with a rolling registration and competition from 9:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Judging will take place at 1 p.m. and prizes will be given for different categories (12 and under, 13 and over and family). NAMI will also be giving out free sand buckets at 10 a.m. on the beachfront to anyone who has a desire to build sandcastles (while supplies last)! -Price Chopper/Market 32 - Giant Coloring Mural. Kids of all ages will enjoy adding their color and creative flare to this wonderful supersized mural! -Open Play Volleyball Tournaments. Create your own team and your own fun. -Chik-fil-A at the Beach. Come see Chick-fil-A Plattsburgh at the beach between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Be sure to download the Chick-fil-A One App and when you arrive at the beach open the app to receive an original Chick-fil-A sandwich. -Outside Art: Follow Your Path: The Eclipse Mural. Stop by the Outside Art: Plattsburgh Public Art Project tent and watch mural artist Andrew McGill in action as he paints the "Follow Your Path: The Eclipse Mural" at the beach during Mayor's Cup! -MLPBS Family-Friendly Activity & Book Giveaway. Visit the MLPBS tent for a hands-on PBS KIDS activity, suitable for kids ages 3-8. Children and teens who stop by get to take ome a free book, courtesy of the Hallock Giving Library. -NCCI Snap and Smile Pavilion. North Country Center for Independence's Snap and Smile Pavilion will feature a photo booth with festive summer props such as a kayak and sailing gear - perfect for capturing fun memories of the day. There will also be games, giveaways, and engaging activities for kids, including fossil-making and identification. Summer Fun for the whole family! MAYOR'S CUP AT CITY MARINA (10:30 a.m.-7 p.m.) In the past, the marina area was reserved for the captains and their crew competing in the Mayor's Cup Regatta, but not anymore! This year Sunrise Rotary is introducing exciting activities to entertain everyone on Saturday afternoon, July 6. There is ample free parking around the marina area and the iconic Naked Turtle will be open and ready to serve. In addition, Mooney Bay's Doc's on the Water will be onsite at the Plattsburgh City Marina and will be adding to the outdoor festivities by offering some of their signature tasty treats and a cash bar. See the calendar of events below and there will also be corn-hole, hula hoops and more summertime fun on hand. -Mayor's Cup Regatta competitive races begin at 10:30 a.m. in three divisions – Jib & Main, Racing, and Multihull with prizes for all divisions. The sailing courses are set the morning of the race in Cumberland Bay on Lake Champlain. Advance registration required at www.mayorscup.com. -Parrots and Pirates Poker Run/Walk begins with registration and mandatory check-in at The Naked Turtle at 11:30 a.m. The course begins and ends at the Plattsburgh marina area and the featured stops are strategically placed at various establishments in Plattsburgh's historic downtown. Dress up like parrot, a pirate or anything Buffet! Fee is $35. Registration is available online at www.mayorscup.com. -Paddle Power Palooza, first annual boat parade around the marina. Registration begins at 2:30 p.m. and the parade at 3:30 p.m. Show off your paddle power prowess and decorative flair! The parade of non-motorized paddle boats (i.e. kayaks, canoes, SUPs) begins and ends at the marina and the route is approximately 1 mile in length. Participants are encouraged to call on their aquatic ingenuity and decorate their boats to distinguish themselves on the water. Registration is available for paddlers online at www.mayorscup.com. The event is sure to be a hit with paddlers and spectators alike! -Free Outdoor Concert. Plattsburgh's favorite local band, Damaged Goods, will be performing live at the Plattsburgh City Marina from 3-6 p.m. -'Spirit of Ianelli' and Mayor's Cup Regatta Awards. 6 p.m. at the Plattsburgh City Marina. Congratulate Mike Collin, this year's 'Spirit of Ianelli' Award honoree, and give a big round of applause to all the captains and their crew who competed in the Regatta.
