Horicon Town Board welcomes two new members

BRANT LAKE | Horicon residents Teri Schuerlein and Ed Sim, both of whom have solid roots in the southern Adirondacks, joined the Horicon Town Board and participated in their first town meeting on June 20. Schuerlein and Sim were appointed by the town board to fill the respective positions formerly held by retiring board members Peter Palmer and Bob Olson. Palmer served on the board for four and a half years, and Olson served Horicon in various roles for 26-plus years. Schuerlein is co-proprietor with her husband Paul of the Lazy Moose Garden Market, Horicon's general store, deli and cafe, which they together established in 2014. Also, Teri Schuerlein is a Certified Trust and Fiduciary Advisor and Vice President of the ADK Wealth Management Group of Albany. She said that by serving on the Horicon town board, she is following a tradition set by her parents and grandparents. "Civic duty has been part of my family for several generations," she said June 20. "A lot of people have urged me to step up, so I decided to serve on the board." Ed Sim has owned a home in Horicon since 2004, and is now transitioning to full-time residency, he said. Sim has served on the North Warren Emergency Medical Services board of directors and was chairman of the board for the last 18 months, working to establish the EMS tax district, a transition necessary for the ambulance service's sustainability. Sim is a retired Town of Colonie police officer. "I'm interested in helping out our town in any way I can," he said following the June town meeting.
