$4.4M awarded upstate through Northern Border Regional Commission

PLATTSBURGH | The Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) is awarding nearly $4.4 million in funding for projects across Upstate New York and the North Country. Grant awardees announced June 27 include Adirondack Land Trust; Essex Food Hub, North Country Family Health Center, Inc. and to the Village of Granville. The local awards include $3,000,000 to Adirondack Land Trust to provide Adirondack wildland experiences to underserved residents and visitors with disability by building universal access trails and amenities at two nature preserves spanning 425 acres close to the population centers and visitor hubs of Saranac Lake/Paul Smiths and Lake Placid. $500,000 was awarded to Essex Food Hub to further renovations at its new, previously idle building in Westport to provide business development support for burgeoning small farm businesses and food entrepreneurs in New York's North Country region. Congresswoman Elise Stefanik said "Bringing investments back to our community remains one of my top priorities which is why I introduced legislation to reauthorize the NBRC for ten years. I look forward to continuing to bolster NBRC's efforts to enhance rural healthcare and encourage job creation across NY-21." U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer said the projects will help address critical needs across the region, including improving healthcare access for rural communities, improving trails in the Adirondacks, strengthening water infrastructure, and more to help improve quality of life and spur economic development in the region. Schumer said "I fought to deliver historic increases for the NBRC because I knew that would deliver major funding for communities across New York. Now from the Adirondacks to Wayne County communities are reaping the rewards. I'm proud to deliver this major federal investment to help communities tackle issues facing our rural areas and lay the foundation for a better future here in the North Country and Upstate NY."
