Duprey, Miller named CVAC baseball co-MVPs

PLATTSBURGH | Peru's Landen Duprey and Plattsburgh High's Warren Miller were named Champlain Valley Athletic Conference co-Most Valuable Players by the conference's baseball head coaches. Ticonderoga's Dan Dorsett was recognized with Coach of the Year honors, and Northern Adirondack was the recipient of the Ray Holmes sportsmanship award. Duprey appeared in 16 games this spring. Between conference, non-conference and postseason play, his slash line (batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage) was .545/.630/1.072. The senior reached base on 15 singles, eight doubles, seven home runs and 16 walks for a 1.703 OPS. The Le Moyne College commit was responsible for batting in 30 of Peru's 175 runs on the season. He struck out only seven times in 73 plate appearances. On the mound, he recorded 22.2 innings pitched through two starts and eight relief appearances. He posted a 3-0 record with a 2.78 ERA. Like Duprey, Miller was extraordinary on the mound and in the batter's box. He made nine starts, registering a 6-2 record and 1.16 ERA, and struck out 100 of the 198 batters he faced. Miller surrendered only 17 hits – two of them of the extra-base variety – through 54.1 innings pitched. Between the Section VII Class A final and NYSPHSAA Class A sub-regional, the senior tossed two complete games, allowing seven hits and four earned runs on 27 strikeouts and six walks. At the plate, the SUNY Cortland commit batted 31-for-62 with six doubles, seven triples and two home runs. Miller totaled a .500/.600/.919 slash line to go with a 1.519 OPS. Dorsett guided Ticonderoga to a CVAC Division II title. The Sentinels finished 11-2 across conference competition, including an 8-0 mark against D-II opposition. Ticonderoga knocked off Division I's Plattsburgh High, Peru and Northeastern Clinton. Unofficially, Dorsett is the only head coach in Section VII baseball history with over 300 career wins.
