Tannery Pond presents Indigenous Gifts: Traditions, Today and Tomorrow

NORTH CREEK | This summer, Tannery Pond Center presents "Indigenous Gifts: Tradition, Today and Tomorrow," a festival celebrating the art and culture of the Indigenous peoples of the Adirondacks in acknowledgement of their profound relationship with and stewardship of these mountains, lakes and streams long before the arrival of European settlers. Tannery Pond Center hopes to advance deeper knowledge and understanding of the continued vibrancy of Haudenosaunee arts and culture, as embodied by the performers, artists and storytellers who are participating in this festival. The Haudenosaunee participants have agreed to share their cultural traditions with all who come to the art exhibit and festival events. Running from July 16 through Sept. 14, "Indigenous Gifts: Tradition, Today, and Tomorrow" will be held at the Widlund Gallery and curated by David Kanietakeron Fadden, director of the Six Nations Iroquois Cultural Center in Onchiota, N.Y. This exhibit will showcase contemporary works by Indigenous artists selected by Mr. Fadden, offering a unique perspective on the vibrant and evolving traditions of the Haudenosaunee people. The festival aims to honor the profound relationship and stewardship that the Indigenous communities have maintained with the Adirondack mountains, lakes, and streams long before European settlers arrived. Festival Highlights: The 8-week festival will highlight the diverse cultural artistry of the Haudenosaunee people as they live today. It offers many opportunities for families to experience together the meaningful traditions that influence the community and family structure of the Haudenosaunee that are so graciously being shared with us. Tannery Pond Center is offering many of the events for children, young adults and families free of charge to encourage participation from surrounding communities.
