NCCC, SUNY Plattsburgh offer dual enrollment

SARANAC LAKE | Starting in the fall, students can simultaneously be a Saint Bernard and a Cardinal, through North Country Community College and SUNY Plattsburgh's dual admission program. This will allow students to attend two years at North Country and two years at Plattsburgh to earn an associate and bachelor's degrees in four years total. North Country Community College President Joe Keegan and SUNY Plattsburgh President Alexander Enyedi signed the Gateway 2 Plattsburgh into action, April 25. "SUNY Plattsburgh has long been a good partner of North Country Community College and has welcomed our students in a number of our degree programs," Keegan said. "We deeply appreciate your commitment to this process, we thank you for strengthening the partnership that we've had collectively." Under the agreement, a single application will unlock access to both institutions. It will also give students access to advisors, faculty and other resources from both institutions. The application, admission and deposit fees will be waived as well. In order to participate, students must maintain a minimum GPA, complete the prerequisite courses and fulfill the credit obligations before moving from North Country to Plattsburgh. "The benefits of this agreement extend well beyond administrative convenience," Enyedi said. "Through these collaborative efforts, we are not just removing barriers we are dismantling them entirely. This agreement will open doors to students to students to complete a four-year degree without even having to leave their local community, which is something that is near and dear to my heart." The presidents see this as an opportunity to educate more of the North Country, leading to improved economic vitality. "Education and economic success go hand in hand," Enyedi said.
