Plattsburgh family supports new YMCA in a big way

PLATTSBURGH | Loretta and Wouter J. Rietsema have announced an impressive $125,000 donation to help build the Plattsburgh YMCA's new facility on New York Road. In a statement from Dr. and Mrs. Rietsema, they expressed the importance of community, saying "We are thrilled to be able to support this exciting project at this point in our lives. We have been members since we came here almost 30 years ago and fitness is part of all our lives as a result. And for us, the YMCA is about so much more than a gym and a pool. It is about being part of the community and about providing community within its walls. When we first moved here we found community in the families and staff of Y Wee Care and that continued in swim classes, Camp Jericho and all the weights and cardio rooms." "The pandemic shone a bright light on the need for community in our region; the YMCA provides connections that can be life-changing, if not lifesaving, for some. This project will allow our YMCA to bring even more people together in new and different ways in a modern and accessible facility. This new facility will be a jewel to our region just as its staff and programs have been for years. We hope others share our passion and desire to support this fantastic vision."
