Community Conversations continue at four schools

ELIZABETHTOWN | Community Conversations: Youth Mental Health and Preventing Addiction is returning, this time at four new schools: Boquet Valley Central School District Mountain View Campus (April 16), Schroon Lake Central School (April 18), Willsboro School (April 23) and Ticonderoga Central School District (April 25). All events will be from 6-8 p.m. The series took place for the first time in November, at Lake Placid Central School District and Moriah Central School District. "This is the beginning of a conversation, it is not the conversation," Essex County Director of Community Services Terri Morse said. "The ultimate outcome is going to be the community coming together with the schools and the provider system, and helping increase the health and well-being of the citizens of their community." The subject of this event is how trauma can impact future substance use and mental health. The event is hosted by Essex County Mental Health and Community Services Board, the Building Resilience in Essex Families (BRIEF) Coalition and ECHO and is funded by an RCORP grant through Hudson Mohawk Area Health Education Center (AHEC). The two-hour event will include introductions by town supervisors and opening remarks by Assemblyperson Matt Simpson in Schroon Lake. There will also be a presentation by Zachary Randolph interim CEO of St. Joseph's about the connection between trauma and addictions. There will also be a panel discussion of community members and providers about how they can increase resilience in their communities.
