Assemblyman Jones welcomes Canadian Parliamentarians to Albany

ALBANY | Assemblyman Billy Jones (D-Chateaugay Lake) welcomed the Consul General of Canada in New York, Tom Clark, and members of the US-Canada Inter-Parliamentary Group to Albany this week as part of their annual Canada Heritage Day celebration. It was the first time members of the Canadian Parliament visited the New York State Capitol in an official capacity. As chair of the NY-Canada Relations Task Force, Jones hosted a breakfast roundtable with members of the Task Force, as well as Consul General Clark, Martine Hebert, Quebec Delegate General in New York, David W. Patterson, Ontario Representative in Washington, D.C., Honourable Sen. Michael McDonald, and Member of Parliament Brian Masse. During the event, they discussed the important relationship between the two countries, especially when it comes to trade. Additionally, they discussed Canada's role in the push to make New York a hub for artificial intelligence, especially considering Montreal's role in the industry. In addition to the breakfast, Jones also introduced the delegation from Canada on the Assembly floor and passed a Resolution in honor of the historic occasion. "I cannot stress the importance of our relationship with Canada enough," said Jones. "Living in a border community, I know firsthand how much we both rely on each other, especially with the many Canadian companies that employ thousands of people across the North Country. We cannot take this friendship for granted and need to continue to have these important conversations to foster this relationship. As chair of the New York Canada Relations Task Force, I will continue to work with the Canadian Consulate and the U.S. Canada Inter-Parliamentary Group to pass policy that strengthens our partnership and I want to thank them all for taking the time to visit Albany this week."
