Lake Champlain Pools, Spas & Stoves hits 50-year mark

PLATTSBURGH | The Hubbell family has a very good reason celebrate 2024: Their business, Lake Champlain Pools, Spas & Stoves, is marking its 50th anniversary as a successful, local, family-owned business. "In 1976, I was looking for a business opportunity in Plattsburgh. I had some experience in pool installation, having built pools in New Jersey and Nevada," said George Hubbell, president. "An opportunity came along to buy a local pool company. I took the plunge, no pun intended, and never looked back." Lake Champlain Pools was created in 1974 by Herb Carpenter, then-Chief of Police for the City of Plattsburgh. Paul Green, of Don G Orchards in Peru, N.Y., and his brother-in-law purchased it in 1975, and in 1976 it was sold to George Hubbell. According to Kay Hubbell, vice president, "It didn't take long to realize that we had multiple additional product lines to explore. We started selling spas in 1981, wood stoves in 2009 and saunas in 2000. In 2017, our daughters, Erinn and Christine, joined our business, and we couldn't be happier to keep the company in the family and help a new generation of happy pool, stove, hot tubs and sauna customers find the right product or offer the best service for their pursuit of wellness." "It has been a learning experience, and a bit of a rollercoaster ride, but it has also been a lot of fun," said Erinn Hubbell. "It's a great feeling when someone who purchased a pool or spa comes back to buy a wood stove, sauna or swim spa. We are proud to call the North Country home." Christine Hubbell added, "One of the keys to our success over the years, besides, of course, our wonderful customers, is our staff. We have seven people who have been with us for over twenty years, three for over ten. We wouldn't be where we are without them."
