AuSable Valley voters approve $24M Capital Project

CLINTONVILLE | Voters in the AuSable Valley Central School District approved the school's planned $24 million Capital Project. The $5.5 million Energy Performance Contract also won voter consent. The margin for approval in both votes topped 70 percent. District Superintendent Mike Francia said they had a great turnout. Proposition 1, the Capital Project, earned 349 yes votes with 141 votes against, with a total 490 votes cast. Proposition 2, the EPC, earned 363 yes votes with 119 votes against, with a total 482 votes cast. "The AuSable Valley Central School District would like to thank our residents for coming out to vote on our capital project proposal," Francia said via email on Thursday. "This project will allow us to focus on updating and improving our existing facilities infrastructure while also addressing health and safety concerns. "This project is anticipated to begin in early 2025 and will be phased over 2 to 3 years. Again, we would like to thank the community for their support." Of the $24 million, $19.2 million comes through State Building Aid. The district will secure a 15-year bond for the remaining $4.8 million. The tax rate for the bond is expected to increase about 43 cents (0.437) per $1,000 of real property value beginning with the 2026-27 school year. Of the $5.5 million Energy Performance Contract (EPC), $4.4 million will be paid with state aid. The $1.1 million balance is paid in energy cost savings. The School Board said projects included in the capital repair plan truly focus on building safety and infrastructure. Work to be done involves roof repairs, new boilers and infrastructure at the Middle/High School, Keeseville Elementary, AuSable Forks Elementary, and at the AuSable Forks bus garage. In addition to repairs, school entryways will be rebuilt to improve security.
