Plattsburgh Parks and Rec unveils family-fun February lineup

PLATTSBURGH | Several family-fun opportunities are coming this month thanks to the Town of Plattsburgh Parks and Recreation Department, Point au Roche State Park, the Town of Schuyler Falls, Ameri-Can North Sports Center, Cornell Cooperative and other community partners. The late-February fun starts with a free youth archery program at Plattsburgh Rod and Gun Club Feb. 20 from 10-11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon. The program, sponsored by Plattsburgh Parks and Cornell Cooperative Extension, is open to youth aged 10-18. Space is limited. Those interested can register online at www.townofplattsburghrecreation.com. Also on Feb. 20, is a free Food STEM program from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. courtesy of Plattsburgh Parks and Cornell Cooperative Extension. The hands-on workshop and experiments are free to youth aged 8-12. With limited space, those interested are asked to register early online at www.townofplattsburghrecreation.com. On Feb. 21, the town and Champlain Area Trails are hosting a Family Learn to Ski Program at Cadyville Rec Park from 1 to 3 p.m. The free program is open to those 5 and older. Space is also limited and can be secured by registering early at www.townofplattsburghrecreation.com. On Feb. 21-23 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., the Town of Plattsburgh Parks and Rec and Town of Schuyler Falls is co-sponsoring free Family Ice Skating at Americ-Can North Sports Center. The free program is open to all ages. Attendees can bring their own skates or rent from a limited supply on-site. On Feb. 22, the Town of Plattsburgh Parks and Recreation Department and Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners are co-sponsoring a free youth Building Pinecone Birdfeeder program from 1-2:30 p.m. The free program is open to ages 5-8. On Friday, Feb. 23, Parks and Rec is teaming up with Point Au Roche State Park to offer a Luminaria Snowshoe from 5-6:30 p.m. The free program, complete with hot chocolate, is geared for all ages and starts at the Nature Center. Snowshoes are available if needed, but participants should bring a flashlight or headlamp. If there is not enough snow, the event will be held as a walk through the path.
