High schoolers invited to Students Inside Albany program

ELIZABETHTOWN | The League of Women Voters of the North Country is inviting students 16 and over from high schools in Clinton and Essex county to apply for the opportunity to attend the 20th Students Inside Albany (SIA) program which will take place from May 19-22. Sixty students will travel to Albany for a first-hand education about state government. The program is designed to increase high school students' awareness of their responsibility in representative government and provide information about the tools necessary for meeting that responsibility. While there, students can tour the state's capital and participate in a series of interactive lectures on topics such as the state budget process, the role of lobbyists in the legislative process, citizen rights to access government information, the role of media in politics, and the move to reform state government. The highlight for most students is the opportunity to shadow one's State Senator and State Assembly person for an afternoon while attending a legislative session on the Chamber floor. This conference is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of NYS Education Foundation and is totally free for all participants and includes a stipend for transportation.
