CB Electric adds new office location for New Year

PLATTSBURGH | If you asked what's new at CB Electric, the answer would be high energy. Electrical contractor Clifford Berg and Office Manager Amanda Leonard relocated the locally owned business's main office to a suite on Booth Drive. The year 2023 marked the first year of full-time residential and commercial electrical work for Berg, and it turned into a year charged with growth. He's looking forward to 2024. For Berg, emerging use of smart home equipment, smart panels and electric vehicle (EV) home charging stations has put his occupation at the cutting edge of technology. "Smart panels are breakers that sync with your phone," Berg said. "People are putting them in." And EV chargers are becoming part of household systems. "There are Level 1 'trickle' chargers," Leonard explained. "It takes six to 12 hours to charge, unlike the DC fast chargers you would find beside a store or parking area." Berg said there are also Level 2 EV chargers for homes. "The level indicates amperage," he said," 20 amp are Level 1 and 50 amp are Level 2." CB Electric does all types of residential and commercial projects, some from the ground up, others updates and renovations sought by homeowners. Berg said one recent project they completed helped better light and brighten a kitchen and the homeowner was thrilled. "It's so gratifying to help someone find a solution that fits their need," he said. Electrical work in this region, from Plattsburgh to Ticonderoga to Lake Placid, requires an ability to work within a wide range of construction styles, from a new build to historic homes, from manufactured homes to timber frame. When customers call with questions, Leonard said the first step at CB Electric gathers basic information, unless it's an emergency call. "We do an intake sheet to understand the project and what type of house it's for. Then we go out to their home and provide an estimate." Berg and his team works with power companies on advanced projects and new builds. "We have experience with the electric companies and that helps take some of the stress off the homeowner." CB Electric has a team of 5 electricians that provide installation, repairs and upgrades. "The guys that work with me have years of experience," Berg said. "It's a great team." With electric use components and new technology growing, Berg said they stay up-to-date with online training and code review. "A lot of people are looking to install security equipment and networking that connects their phone and security systems. We constantly read and use online educational sources to stay current." Municipal goals to grow the housing market, investments in smaller homes means there will likely be a lot of work in the years ahead. "The most recent data shows that this country is seven million homes short for the population base," Berg said. "The need for tradesmen is unfathomable." Asked what he hopes to achieve in the next five years, Berg said providing excellent service on every project is goal one. Like his motto says: "Building relationships one job at a time." "In five years? I would like to continue to grow the company, possibly add another office location," the contractor said. "I enjoy what I do, it's so gratifying."
