Wbg.-Lake Geo. wrestlers win two meets, place in tourney

WARRENSBURG | The Warrensburg-Lake George wrestling team advanced their season's win-loss record this week, winning two meets and placing fourth in a tournament. In the Riverhawks Duals tourney held Dec. 16 at Coxsackie-Athens High School, Cameron Carpenter — the reigning Section II Class D champion in his weight class — reached his 100th career victory as he defeated all five of his opponents at 108 pounds. Also going 5-0 was Ethan York at 116 pounds. Ben Miner tallied 4-1 over the day at 152 pounds. Tallying 3-2 in the tournament was Cameron Hunt-Allen at 215 pounds. Coach Mark Trapasso said he was happy that Hunt-Allen was back with the team after recovering from an injury, and would be helping his team score points in future meets and tournaments. The Cobleskill High School team won the duals tournament, Coxsackie-Athens was runner-up, Ossining High was third, and Warrensburg-Lake George was fourth. WBG.-LAKE GEO. 39, GLENS FALLS 25 On Dec. 12, The Burghers-Lakers defeated Glens Falls High 39-25. Warrensburg-Lake George wrestlers winning their matches were Carpenter at 108 pounds who pinned Ayden Vaillancourt at 1:49, Ethan York at 116 pounds who pinned Zack Pendell at 1:39, Kawilga Duell at 124 pounds who pinned Chase Weil in 1:46; Colton Bell at 145 pounds who pinned William Canale in 1:50, Ben Miner at 152 pounds who pinned Daniel Caminero in 2:41, and Lucas French at 170 pounds who decisioned Will Vanderminden by a score of 11-5, and Cody LeBarron at 215 pounds who pinned Richie Marcellus in 1:05. At 285 pounds, Glen Potter lost a 0-1 decision to Jakob Pregent. Also wrestling for Warrensburg were Ajani Wimbley at 131 pounds and Colton Stannard at 138 pounds. BURGHERS-LAKERS 54, WHITEHALL 18 On Dec. 13, the Warrensburg-Lake George team defeated the short-staffed Whitehall Railroaders 54-18. The meet only featured six varsity wrestling matches, but the Burghers-Lakers won four of them. In the 145-pound weight class, Miner pinned Steven Mattison Jr. in 55 seconds; at 152 pounds, French pinned Dylan Gordon in 55 seconds; at 190 pounds, LeBarron pinned Lucus Juckett in 1:34, and at 285 pounds, Glen Potter pinned Ethan Stoodley in 2:46. Colton Bell was pinned in 3:03 at 145 pounds and Andrew Lyng was pinned in 1:45 at 160 pounds. As of Dec. 17, Warrensburg-Lake George has won all three of its 2023-24 standard meets to date, and has competed in three duals tournaments. Warrensburg-Lake George wrestlers credited with forfeits were Carpenter, York, Duell, Jayden Johnson at 131 pounds, and Olivia LaPoint at 138 pounds.
