All's ready for Keeseville Holiday Festival: Dec. 9

KEESEVILLE | A brightly lit parade is set to roll through the village as Keeseville Holiday Festival arrives Dec. 9, bearing gifts, stories, Christmas songs, food and fun for families throughout the region. The third annual Holiday Fest starts at 2:30 p.m. with crafting for kids at two locations, The Grange Hall on Main St. and at Leslie's Salon on Front Street. Keeseville's chief elf and Town Clerk Bruce Bourgeois said preparations are in place. "The parade is going to be twice as big as it has been," he said of support that's grown to welcome over a thousand area residents and kids. "The Christmas Store, on Front Street, has been a favorite for the community, and it starts at 4:30 p.m. just before the parade at 4:45 p.m." The great thing about Keeseville's Christmas Store is that everything is free. Gifts are available for children to choose for their parents and grandparents and loved ones in a special shop at the 1719 Gallery. "The community really comes together to help out with this. Last year about 200 children got to choose free gifts for their parents and grandparents. It's all new stuff," Bourgeois said. "Usually we have 50 to 60 volunteers that come and help out. And all gifts can be wrapped for free. Wrapping this year is at Dynamix, a few doors down on Front Street." The village tree lighting ceremony is set for 5 p.m. And the parade travels from Pleasant Street to Front Street. A myriad of activities around the village are centered on Front and Main with hot cocoa, cookies, Christmas stories at the Keeseville Free Library and the Dog Father Food Truck parked in front of Mountain Valley Federal Credit Union. "Dean Newhard helps with Santa Claus," Bourgeois said. "He has a story time and sing-along at New Hope Church at 5:30 p.m., on Front Street." Families enjoy exploring the different activities before and after the Big Truck Parade, he said. "This year, Ausable Valley Central School students are going to have children's caroling at 4:30 p.m., before the parade." And the crafting kids will walk through town with their newly made decorations. Travelers on Route 9 should know that Front Street is cordoned off for Christmas Fest activities and parking is usually available on side streets in Keeseville.
